I went out on Sunday to see Santana at the O2. Took the Zegas empty to store all our gear whilst we were inside.

When we got back one of the lids was a bit odd to say the least. Once we had taken the gear out the lid went on but there was no tension from either catch when closing it. I had to turn the screw and even fit the padlocks each end to make sure it didn't blow off!

In daylight I have had a look and can't see any difference between both panniers, nothing seems to be bent or anything. But the lid is now loose and rattles! The seal inside the lid seems no different to the one on the other lid!

I thought at first that perhaps someone had tried to get in but as there seems no difference between the two panniers I am stumped!

Any ideas?

Did you by chance have to force the lid down to close it when sticking the riding gear inside?

I was thinking that the seal might have been crushed by using the cam action of the clamps to pull the lid down.

I thought of that. In fact as we packed up after the concert and it was dark, I thought maybe it had fallen out, but in daylight it looks as far in the slot as the other one.

I does seem that whatever is wrong it means the lid fits lower than it should be and isn't being pulled down by the cam action as the other one.

Take the seal out, run a thin layer of silicon in the seal recess then refit the seal, effectively packing the seal.

One of mine is the same in fact the lid did blow off.
I zipped a cable small tie around each loop and snipped the tail off.
Perfect now.

Which loop, the one that goes over the hook on the lid?

I emailed TT UK and they suggested checking the loops that go over the hook on the lid are not strecthed, they aren't. They are the same both sides.

That's what I take it he means.

I'd be more inclined to try and bend the lid latch tongues a little to bring more tension to bear but, if the seal is where the problem is, it's likely to allow leaks (that's why my first thoughts were to add some silicon sealant).

this is what happens when you buy cheap ratty looking bread bins instead of panniers:hide

Yeah thats what I meant.

I've had similar and after given the hooks a gentle tap with a hammer they tightened up fine. They are soft aluminium so it doesn't take much - just a couple of knocks and job done.
