Reactolite goggles/ riding glasses

I am thinking of this type, so that I don't have to change for night riding. Heading over to Fat Skeleton to try their on over my helmet today... any thoughts, pros, cons please. I ride in a an open face, so visors are a non starter. I have a visor and have never even attached it - hateful thing.

Many many moons ago I rode with reactolite glasses - they're great until you go suddenly from bright daylight into dark. No matter how good they are there's still a delay from when they go from full dark to full light. Really brought home to me when riding in the Alps when I had to stop and take them off as they were too damn dangerous when riding through the tunnels. Recently bought a new pair of specs and brought the subject up with the optician and they were definitely against it, even with the newest Reactolite materials, as on a car it's fairly easy to whip them off as you come to a tunnel. On a bike with a helmet on - no chance.

100% works well, cheap to replace the lens and can swap to standard/rain in a short time.
A few places have them in deals atm with 2 pairs inc rain setup.
Just buy the reactive lens on top as it works out cheaper.

Ride more slowly then.... for that situation I am riding to look at the scenery, not the road. I know I am different to most motorbike riders, who seem to want to go fast - i don't, it frightens me going fast. I like riding a motorbike, but not going fast. That is why I stay off motorways, because the trucks are going faster than I want to.

They’re ok until you are into a tunnel. I’m not slowing down for the view in a tunnel and there’s nowhere to stop to take them off. Even on country roads I seem to find tunnels easily enough in Spain.

In these circumstances the speed you're doing makes no difference whatsoever. Reactolites just don't react that fast and you go from bright light to darkness and you can't see a thing in the tunnel, even if it's lit. In many places there's nowhere to stop before the tunnel to take off your glasses and if you're doing that then you'd be better off with a tinted visor that you can flip up.

No. Full face helmets are very claustrophobic. the open face Bell 500 is a joy, the extra vision, the extra awareness of your surroundings and you can hear better - ear plugs? Whats all that about? how on earth can you hear what is going on around you?

I take it reactolites are not as good as people say they are then. I'm not worried about tunnels, I doubt I will ever go to Spain again, it is looking doubtful if we will go to France even. Back to the drawing board looking for a decent pair of sunglasses to ride in that I can change the lenses for nightime - what a faff it is though, and having to carry a second pair.

If you promise to never ever ride on a route that includes a tunnel of more than 50 metres then go ahead. But as already said its well scary to be zipping along enjoying the view then the darkness of the tunnel becomes pitch black - I kid you not.

I found reactolite lenses don’t react quick enough for tunnels, don’t get as dark as sunglasses or dark enough. After a while they just stay darker than they started out.

I had a set of Scotts goggle the Reactor-lite lenses worked well for me in Scotland, currently have a set of Oakley Air break, great goggles expensive but so so easy to change lenses

If you promise to never ever ride on a route that includes a tunnel of more than 50 metres then go ahead. But as already said its well scary to be zipping along enjoying the view then the darkness of the tunnel becomes pitch black - I kid you not.

Had that with the wife riding pillion - shat myself.
