Reactolite goggles/ riding glasses

Just carry a spare yellow lens or clear lens
A drop down visor is a godsend on a open face helmet these days. Been there and got the badge for using without the visor.

I use a J-Cruise and it is perfect for all of the scenarios the OP wants. Good all round vision, drop down sun visor and large visor for wet weather protection. An open face in the pissing rain is no fun.........
But it does have a natural slowing down factor - to reduce the sting! I grit my teeth, and pull my neck buff up a bit, and take a spare or two for when it gets sodden.... but I know what you mean.

I wear react to light, prescription glasses and an open face helmet all year round.
J- Cruise is great and no problem with the visor or sun shield. If I go through a tunnel I simply slip the glasses down my nose a little and look over the top - my eye sight is not that bad that I can’t see the road in front but I can’t read the road signs.

I need reading glasses to see the dash/speedo when driving or riding, so bifocal reactolite readers from eBay cost the princely sum of £14 a pair. I use them in a full face helmet but prefer more ventilation in this weather, so took a leaf out of the Euro playbook and treated myself to a carbon Scorpion Exo-Tech modular helmet and it’s been a revelation. Full face if I want, but a proper open face rather than chinpiece-in-the-air-like-a-sail, when needed. The visor gives all the protection I want and the sunvisor can be used in its own, too.

Highly recommended in the current weather…

I am going to oay a visit to MotoCentral - which is a Bell stockist as well as all sorts of eyewear, and Sportsbikeshop, because likewise they have a wide selection. I will try the photochromic / reactolite types for myself and see how they fare before condemning them.

I have been looking at the Scorpion open face. They sound as though they are well made - how is the interior holding up? The Bell I have is proper leather interior, not cloth.
Interior is fine.

A lot of helmets these days come with integral drop down sun visors. I used to use reactive lenses but they don't transition fast enough for rapid changes of light (eg going from strong sunlight into shade under tree lined patches of road) and that was sometimes problematical. Mine took 60 seconds or so to react. Perhaps they've come on in the past few years but I just switched to a helmet with drop down visor and no more problems.

Called in to Moto Central today on the way home. Wearing my damaged Bell and cheap sunglasses (Bolle Raider Tactical) I was looking for replacements. I ended up with photochromic yellow Cruiserz by Ugly Fish (thanks Doc!) and have ordered the Shoei open face, they didn't have it in Small in a sensible colourway... the one they had was painted to look like wood.... I have a wood effect helmet already, an Arai Giga airbrushed by Richard Carden (Ultimate Airbrush) and it is all over timber, so I look like a woodentop, which is apt. :D Thank you for all the suggestions, the Shoei came through for comfort and build quality, although the Scorpion had a better interior, it wasn't as comfy. The HJC helmet was great, but it pressed in various spots and so was discounted from the final shortlist. The Shoei is on order.

The trike insurance will be coughing up for the new helmet. I needed new glasses anyway....and I have done a fair few scissors and a day of gardening! ££££ :D

I am thinking of this type, so that I don't have to change for night riding. Heading over to Fat Skeleton to try their on over my helmet today... any thoughts, pros, cons please. I ride in a an open face, so visors are a non starter. I have a visor and have never even attached it - hateful thing.
Remove the main visor from a Shoei J-Cruise (or similar) and just use the drop-down internal sun visor.

I use one of these

they are good, however the internal eyeshield has a blue tint, and not black , so dosent go really dark, (its a shark thing apparantly)

but you can get tinted visors, so you can have a dark outer visor and the lighter inner one if you want
