Rear brake light only comes on when braking

Doesnt come on with lights switch to full on, so cant ride at night.

Any ideas anyone,

Just to clarify the issue.....are you saying that with your lights switched off,the brake light works....but when you switch your lights on,the tail light works.....but the brake light doesn`t ?

Have you taken out and checked the rear bulb ?

With the light switch swiched fully on (so that front light are on) the rear light does not come on at all, only when pressing the rear brake,

Have taken out rear brake light bulb and put back in, still the same

So then...you`re confusing your tail light with your brake light.

Your tail light isn`t working.

It`s a twin filament bulb...one for tail light and one for brake light.

Double check with another bulb.

Failing that have a look at your fuses to see if one`s popped.

Also make sure you`re putting the bulb in correctly as the pins are offset on a twin filament bulb.

Assuming,of course,that you`re talking about a standard rear light unit ??

AS Tarka said............one bulb does two functions with two filaments, tail lamp and stop lamp. It sounds like the tail lamp filament has blown, get a new one, ask for a '12 volt stop and tail bulb' from any garage etc. about 60p.
