Whilst tinkering in the shed this evening I have discovered that my brake light is not working when I use the rear brake pedal. :(

The light works fine when I pull the front brake lever.

Fuse 1 serves the dash backlight and the stop light. The fuse is intact.

I removed the bolt holding the switch in place, cleaned the blade on the switch and sprayed it with WD40, to no avail.

At this stage I think the switch is fecked and needs replacing with a new part available from Motorworks for £23.29.

Before I shell out, has anyone else has similar problems and found the solution to be other than a new switch?

TIA.

Unplug the switch and bridge the ends of the connection ( frame side, not switch :aidan), brakelight should come on. With the ignition switched on, of course.

Update

I got a rear brake light switch on Saturday morning from a breakers nearby. Fitted the switch, plugged it into the loom but still no brake light. :(

Further investigation revealed that the plug on the loom was the problem. If I jiggled the connector the light would work and when jiggled again it wouldn't. :thedummy

I tried my original switch again and it worked fine too when the connector was given a shake, so I cut the connector off altogether, soldered the wires and covered them with heatshrink. The brake light is working fine now. :thumb2

At least the "new" switch only cost me £5 from the breakers instead of £25 from Motorworks so it wasn't an expensive lesson and I still have it as a spare. :)
