Am keen to try extended test ride on an LC. any suggestions on rental ~ have tried Motorrad Enzian Hotel in Austria website but its bit ambiguous (no reference to LCs) also not sure of arrangements to get there so any info appreciated! Bought my 1200GS in 04 and then discussion was about alternative screens, seats, FDs and rear pad wear (caliper running hand hot). Looking at LC forums now and much the same topics! Given the accelerated wear on LC rear brake pads is a known prob, if scoring appears on disc then is bmw recovery (presumably bike is under warranty) an option?
I was staying at the Enzian 4 weeks ago, they had at least 3 or probably 4 GS-LC rent bikes. The fee for a one-off day was 83 Euros, I covered 310k during my day in the Alps.
If you ride over 350k in the one day you pay for the extra miles. If you are resident at the Enzian which I presume you will be, the hotel will give you a set of superb road maps of hand picked routes for you to ride, including one that takes you to the famous Stelvio pass. All of the routes give the distance covered. The owner is a biker and he will take you out to breakfast up in the mountains, where tables are set out-doors for a yummy breakfast.
I can highly recommend this holiday to any biker, if you are riding to the Enzian, and want to go via Hull ferry to Rotterdam, it is a 325 miles to the Ibis hotel in Heidelberg and then a further 325 mile to the Enzian which is very easily doo-able. However if you have more time you can follow the Rhine for part of your trip through Germany and add on the famous B500 biker road and maker your trip a 2-night stop.
I rode there on a Triumph Explorer which has now been replaced with an LC and it was that day in the Alps on the LC which was the deciding 'clincher' for me.
That GS rent-bike bike flew up the twisting alpine passes like a rat up a drainpipe. I was my best days riding so far this year!
You might be better to give the hotel a phone call.
