Just thought I'd mention to people to regularly check their rear brake 'inspection window'

The pad broke through to show the disc which is the indicator to have them replaced, as the manual says.

What the manual doesn't say is that you should probably do it in the next 50miles or so. When I finally took the pads off at least a quater of the friction material had broken away (the part surrounding the 'inspection window') and there was barely half a mil left.

So check your pads and see the disc through the window, get them sorted pronto.

Hi gsmonkey

My rear pads seemed ok on the wear indicator, but when checked the outboard pad had worn away first, this has happened twice now, I was told by the dealer to ignore the wear indicator totally and just check the pad wear the normal way, my rear pads seem to last about 5000mls so don't wait untill the next service to check them!

Regards Shep

By listening out for metal on metal at the 4000 miles mark?:D

I had to ride back from Penrith to Balderstons on Easter monday with my rear calliper cable tied to the pillion peg to prevent hearing that noise.:D

1500 miles through the penines and Borders (some two up) over the easter weekend took its toll a tad quicker than I thought it might.:o

Yup, i had destroyed a set of pads in about 4,500 miles.

I checked the pads on a monday morning and they were well worn, so i made a mental note to pick some new ones up on that weekend, friday came and the rear brake was completely ineffective (200 miles later), when i changed the pads there was no brake material left at all! It was metal on metal!

I have to agree, check 'em rear pads!
