Well, just gone through 9000 miles on my LC. At the first service (6057) had rear brake pads changed by dealer. Noticed in last few hundred miles scoring on rear disk. Imagine my surprise by noting there is NO PAD on the rear and the disk is buggered.

So, let's calculate that: 2500-3000 miles to destroy a set of fresh rear pads and a disk.:mad:

anyone else noticed outrageous wear on brake disks?

Oh, most driving is either motorway/A road, with about 100 a week on back Bs in a more "spirited" fashion....

Either the pad material is extremely soft or the brake is binding. On my Hexhead I put 24K miles on both front and rear pads and they still had half their life left - upgraded to a more aggressive material to improve the braking. I have 34K on the brake discs and they're not halfway to their limits yet. I can't see why there would be any real difference with the WC to make it that much different.

Just that happened back in 2007 on my former bike. It seems like BMW have some quality issues with their brake pads. I got new pads / disk on warranty. Never happened again...

I will keep an eye on the rear pads on my nev LC!

Brakes

Used to ,happen in the old days (very) one could ride along with a ,foot resting on the rear brake pedal could this be happening?.

I changed my rear pads @ 10,000 miles and there was still plenty of meat on them.

At 9,500 miles I'm now on my third set of rear pads. Several other customers at my dealer have had pads replaced - one during the 600 miles service!

I think BMW UK policy is its a warranty replacement if <4000 miles so don't wait for the 6000 service. Some talk of a "bad batch" of pads but unlikely that my two previous sets were from the same batch.

I've never experienced this rate of wear on any other disc braked bike.

I am currently on a 6000 mile trip in South America and have a Nav 5 on board which records the number of front and rear brake applications. After 18 days into the trip the rear often is applied more than the front AND I RARELY USE the rear brake.

My dealer claims the linked brakes will apply the rears only when the bar brake lever is pulled gently. Thus the linked brakes with an undersized pad area cause premature wear IMOP

2000 miles pads gone, disc ruined. Both replaced under warranty.

6000 and just pulled the pads out for a good inspection. Not down to the bottom of the wear slots yet so not much chance of a free set at the service.
I have noticed there are not many deals on Ebay etc so I thought they must be an odd fitting, they are identical in size to the front pads on my 09 GS1200.
I have just ordered a set of SBS sintered rears at £19.99.

The pad material is supposed to be designed to balance with the front?
The LC pads are so much easier to pull out, just remove the 2 R clips and the retaining pin slides out. No punch and hammers needed like the old bikes.

Do you ride like an old lady?

Does the asc traction control work like a car where it will apply brakes to prevent wheel spin , if it does then it is quite feasible that every time you give it beans on a wc it may be applying the rear brake to prevent wheel spin and so wearing out the pads in double quick time

It doesn't feel as if they are applied. More cutting power / drive.
