Hello everyone,

While doing a regular check on the rear wheel, noticed that the rear rotor was loose, upon close inspection figured out that many of the bolts were loose and one of the bolts had also scratched the inside of the rear housing (see image below - near red arrow).

Well, took off the wheel, took all nuts out on the rear rotor, cleaned, and put back with some loctite. All is now well.

It may help to include this in your regular check. Not sure how it could've/would've come loose.

For me, it was something that I would not normally check, but good I found it before a planned 1000+ mile ride next week.

Is that your original carrier? What year is your bike?

Those bolts usually do not come loose unless someone replaced the carrier and neglected to use Loctite.

JVB, yes that is the original one. This is a 2013 Sept reg bike - one of the earlier LC models.

STRAIGHT back to the dealers with that ..warranty or no warranty.

I agree with Martin. Take it to the dealer, have them replace the disk, the carrier and maybe even the FD because of the damage!

@ madmartin, That's the first thought that went through my mind ... all those stories about ripped spokes etc. which we heard on these forums some time ago.

Still in warranty and looks poorly maintained with all that corrosion, hmmmmmmmm......does it have a full service history?

Yes, lack of maintenance may be an issue, but that level of corrosion on a less than 2 year old bike screams poor quality parts on BMW part. Disgraceful IMHO

I've had my TE since November and I've sprayed it with ACF50 and waxed it more times than I care to remember, but guess what.... yep! there is early signs of corrosion and It would seem I have no way of halting it without resorting to only taking the bike out on sunny dry days. Sod that! It's a bike to be ridden, not fucking admired in a warm garage with no chance of ever seeing a rain drop... GRRRRRRRRRRRR

Gawd help we merry band of sheep.

Corrosion got nowt to do with every bolt loosening itself. Wouldnt matter if that bike had never been cleaned.
BOLTS in critical areas should not be dropping out...hence the loctite.
Be great to see the dealer on this one. Brakes falling apart..oh dear.

Agreed!

Those bolts are one-time-use bolts.

they don't loosen by themselves , imho.

Engineer, full service history :D though the area you see as dirty is the inaccessible part behind the wheel :D I ensure that the bike is ACF'ed and cleaned thoroughly (though now I will have to change the definition of my thorough to include removing the rear wheel every time I clean :blast) :D

Has it been dealer serviced according to the schedule? Only asking because if it has been serviced according to the schedule then part of that schedule is general checking that nuts and bolts are secure.

Well with a full service history the dealer should have noticed bolts coming loose, so take it straight back to them, after all it is still in warranty.
