Hi guys. Been a fan of the site along time. And now my second post.
Iknow its been covered heaps of times, but. Tonight on my way home, short shifting out of a roundabout i fear somthing went pop and my feelings are rear drive bearing. Something has happened there was an instant feeling if a bearing had clappsed.More vibes than is normal and am convinced there was a noise too though that may be my head playing tricks. It made me stop twice to investigate anything obvious but in the street lights and rain couldn't see anything wrong.
Nursed it home and got thinking it feels and rides as thought it has a rear punture it feels lower and handles like its puntured, but its not ive checked.
Its a 2001 gs 1150 with just on 24,000 on the clock.
Could this be the said bearing?

Grab the wheel and try to rock it.
You may be looking at either the final drive big bearing (or possibly the paralever bearing but more likely the big bearing) :(

Have a search on here - there's loads of info about these bearings. Here's one for starters:

I'm sure others will chip in with advice and specific checks - not something I've had to deal with (yet!)

Thanks for that Matt. Ive seen that or similar posts thanks for the link saves the search
Im no working the morro so i will buy a seal and pop the old one out for a look, i did try the test on the back wheel after the symptoms showed up but never noticed any rock in the wheel. But my suspicions are telling me its this.
Cheers. Bob.

Ok guys, i popped the seal this morning and the bearing is sound, cant get a new seal for a couple of days to put back together as yet. There was less oil in there than i was expecting. Any other suggestions?

There isn't much oil in then, in the region of 250ml. Just refil the the bottom of the threads on the bevil box.

Check the spring/shock unit mountings top and bottom.

If you have no play in either bevel big bearing or paralever bearings and the tyre pressure is correct, does your bike have Tourances on it?.They can get noisy/vibratey after a while;especially when leant over.
Rear shock OK?.Can you adjust the damping (increase it) as the stock shocks start to go off at about your mileage giving you a sloppy rear end.

Checked shocker mounts all tight and everything in place. Im a big lad and if shocks give up the ghost at this sort of milage that may explain it. But would it just let go like that? In the meaning that one minute its going as normal then all of a sudden extra vibes and just not right. I run michelins haeaps of tread on them
I dont know, i'l have to wait for new seal,re assemble and take it for a wee burl see if i can pin point it hmm??
