After umming and aaahing as to how to remove the rear rack and re-fix the reg plate i found some brackets on Ebay USA that are used for when a tourpack rear box is fitted ( i think ?)

Anway, they fitted perfectly and cleaned the rear end up.
I ended up relocating the plate under the rear light - with strategic duct tape on top of the rear lens until I figure out what to do with that.

I also got some dark indicator lenses that work well with the black paint

I've got a rear solo rack turning up soon .

Nice one, those BBQ racks aren't light are they.

I'm on the lookout for a rack that fits where the back seat goes, found a 1997 on one but it's different allegedly :nenau

rear light lens

I am just doing the the same, plate below light bar, using a standard roadking light bar which has the reg plate light underneath. When I have afew more £s I will ditch the stock lens for a smoked led unit with no plate light, in the meantime i stuck a piece of red insulation tape inside the lens over the clear window.

BTW like your 4 digit reg number, that would cost more than a new road king in the UK!!!

i hope mine fits

You just need to buys new rear light lens that goes with the number plate relocation kit :thumb

number plate relocation kit?? i just used a self tapper into the mudguard, with some self adhesive foam tape on the back of the plate to hold it tight. :D

That's the problem....and trying to find a <97 solo rack is proving difficult :(

I think different markets had different bars. The Road king classic has the one like yours in the UK. The Road King standard (hard bags, alloy wheels) was unavailable in the uk for a few years although I think it is available again.

Should complete my install this week, i am still looking for a way of blocking off the 3 holes left in the rear mudgaurd above the tail light by the reg plate bracket.

The 'Road King Standard' bar looks like this

This may not be very helpful I know, but I made one up out of bits of old Panhead and Heritage Softail racks I had hanging around. A lot of parts were pretty much interchangeable in the pre-twincam era.

Dave - what bars are they ?

Don't be put off by USA ebay sellers saying they won't ship internationally - just buy it and paypal it and they'll still send it ( to a civilized country anyway ).
They' don't seem to be happy selling to 3rd world countries etc.

Do you mean the handlebars? They are standard Evo Heritage Softail. Not sure what bars the later bikes have. There are a mind blowing number of different configurations of bars :blast

I just couldn't get on with the standard or touring RK bars. I tried them both but love these :thumb2

If you mean the side bars on the rack, they are off a Panhead. I used to have a Duoglide and had loads of bits for it.

Paul - The rear rack turned up - fits perfectly.

However its a rear 'guard top 3 point fixing - not a frame based fix.
Yep that's exactly what I'm after :thumb2

I found exactly the same on eBay here, I asked the guys if it would fit a 95 Road King, they said no. So I asked them why it wouldn't fit, the said the holes are in a different place.... they are only 50 miles from here so it looks like a ride over might a plan to show them it does fit.

Paul, if thats the £50 one off ebay, let me know how you get on?? i nearly took a chance, its looks exactly the same as my current mounts......

It's this one that I was looking at, at £75 it's more expensive but as it's only 50 mile from me I'm hoping to have a look at it before I buy.... after reading Phil's post I'm sure it will fit.

I'll let you know :thumb2
