Rear end is creaking

What do you think causes this creaking?
Drive shaft splines? Shock?

Mine was creaking and it was the para lever bearings. The fixed pivot side was seized solid.
 
That's not the shock or drive splines IMHO so I'd go with the above.
 
Have you tried disconnecting the paralever arm from the final drive.

There is a rubber bush at either end.

If it's not that then more likely bearings.
 
Again for pivot bearings... Remove the back wheel and disconnect the parallel bar and move the bevel box through it's pivot arc and you may well be shocked by how shagged the bearings are... It is hard to detect wear just by bouncing the back of the bike but when they go notchy they greatly effect the handling as the rear doesn't move naturally at speed...
 
That's your swing arm pivot bearings that is. I've just done mine - and did it on my S too. Sounded just like that. Look at the minimal movement on the paralever bearings when you do that - all the movement, and noise is coming from the swing arm bearings.
 
Mine did the same about 3 months ago.

Try spraying WD40 where the rear suspension joins the swinging arm.

Worked for me!

They can be a bugger to get out - especially the left one I think. You might want to see if any mates have access to a blind bearing puller cos it will make it a lot easier

Mine drifted out easily using an appropriate sized socket and extension bar. A bit of heat helps.

Obviously, if you have a blind bearing puller go ahead and use it, but no need to buy one just for this job.
 
My bearing came apart drifting it that way. The centre came out and left the outer section with no way to drift it. There is a deliberate aperture behind the bearing to allow the insertion of a puller - thank god!
 
So, as you all correctly surmised, it was the paralever bearings.

Removal was straightforward and the bearings were found caked in hardened grease. The fixed bearing had worn the pivot slightly, but I cleaned the bearings repacked them with grease and all was well when reassembled.

3000km of alpine passes later and nothing has fallen off.

Handling definitely improved too.
