I bought myself a lovely LED genuine BMW rear light unit with adaptor loom off a fine gentleman of this parish.

Is there much stripping to be done on a 2007 1200 GSA to do the change over or should a numpty like me book it in to have it done??

Can't find anything on youtube.

I should imagine it would be straight forward. After all its only bolt on parts. Go on have a go and take some pics as you go.

Oops so it is.

Everything bolts on make sure everything goes back where you found it. The M6 spacer tubes are two different lengths so get them right or the cases will look saggy.
The light mounting bracket may be well rusted so you'll need a way to derust and paint it or have a new one (preferably painted).

Sent somehow.

You will need to remove the top clamps and mounting bolts. You might get away with not removing the frame clamps.

However helicopter tape under the pillion frame clamps protects the paint and well worth doing. Soak the aluminium clamp with lots of penetrating fluid as the stainless screw will corrode the alloy and seize up. Its an open thread at the tyre side. Be careful tightening the M4 screws. Stainless goes tight quite suddenly but will strip the threads if taken too far. Threadlock is a good idea on the M4s with anti seize paste on the M8s.

Jaysus, some work involved just to change a rear light but got it done.
Looks great, I'm delighted but......... I have the dreaded lampr failure warning ⚠

Please tell me this is a simple setting change with the diagnostics.

I believe the canbus needs to be "told" the light is now LED. Alternatively you'll need ballast resistors.

I will gladly pay for it to be plugged into the computer...........I would rather "self harm" then have to gain access to that rear light again!!!

Easiest with the GS-911, but you could splice into the wires under the seat and fit an LED ballast to tail and stop lamps.

I'd be very happy and relieved to know that it can be sorted with the 911.......I'll just pay my mechanic to do it.

Splicing wires is not for me

Can't be done with GS911, it needs coding on the main dealer system and all the costs associated with that.
