After a long search, I can't quite find the answer I need so thought I'd ask.

I've had the brake light issue on my 03 1150GS and filed one of the bulb connectors off and it worked a treat, reflector back in place with new bulb, cover on, still working.

I then took the seats off to tighten the rear mudguard.
That sorted, I put the seats back on.

Tried the tail light again and it's gone back to always FULL power.
I then took the light off again, and stuck a screwdriver in to move the connecting pins and forgot to switch off the bike.

Now the bike won't start, the fuel pump whirrs, it *tries* to kick over the engine but then dies and makes a noise that I can only describe as a tommy-gun rat-a-tat-tat noise.

The bulb *isn't* blown, and I have tried another new one I bought earlier, but it's FULL power or nothing.

Thanks for reading so far.

Behind my tail light reflector, there are 3 spade connectors, and I've checked those.
From one of the end connectors however, is a loose light coloured cable, attached to the spade at one end, then just hanging there.

2 questions so I can still ride my bike to work tomorrow and keep my job are:-

1) What did I do to the electrics to get the rat-a-tat-tat sound
and,
2) Apart from buy one of those cool LED tail light things I've seen, how do I further troubleshoot and fix the brake light please?

Just in the house warming up, but have to get this fixed tonight.

Many Many thanks
Steve

Charge your battery. The rat a tat is the sound of a flat battery.

Bike finally sorted.

I charged it all day Thurs, took the rear light to bits, cleaned all the connectors, bent all the pins properly, filed the higher of the 2 lugs off the bulb, replaced the 4a & 5a fuses in slots 1 & 2 and put it all back together again.

Voila!

Still fancy one of those LED tail lights though :bounce1

I have been using an LED stop and tail lamp from Ultraleds for a couple of years now, its fine :thumb2

The additional lights (from techno) that fit in the rear indicators are well worthwhile considering. very simple to fit and really do increase your 'presence' :thumb
