I’ve been trying unsuccessfully to find a short thread on the GS forum regarding exhaust gas heat from (I think) a GSA can scorching the back of rear of the number plate. I’m sure I’m not imagining having read it, but I really can’t now find it.

My interest is that the Remus can fitted to my 2015 GSA has been doing this for a while to the right hand side of the plate, and gradually causing some brown burn marks through the reflective yellow of the plate. I’d not thought this was much of an issue, but a few weeks back, my MOT tester gave me an advisory for the scorch marks, and said I’d need to fix the issue before next year’s MOT test.

I’m about to fit a new number plate, and I recall the thread on this site offered a few ideas for keeping the problem at bay.

Anyone help, please?

Thanks.

Tom

A piece of aluminium sheet, cut to the same size as the number plate?

I had the same issue with a Remus on my 2007 gs. Moved the new plate slightly off centre away from the exhaust and put a stainless plate behind it which also slightly extended the base of the mudguard. I think the plate was by Cymark from this very site.
You can just about see it on this picture.

The original post might have been me. It was on an 850GS.

Turned out that the dealer had remove the spacer on the end can bracket (can’t remember why) and put it back in front of, rather than behind. That put the can closer to the bike and it scorched and melted the plate.

Correctly locating the spacer and a new plate fixed the issue…
