Planning to remove rear pads as at 5,500 they look very near the metal. How do I remove the pads, it looks a bit different to the old hex head RT I swapped for the GS?
Is it as simple as removing the 2 spring pin clips, knocking out the pin and pulling out the pads or do I need to remove the caliphs first?:rolleyes:
I just want to check there is enough material to last another 1000 miles when it's due for a service and I'm expecting the dealer to replace the pads under warranty. I've no idea what is causing the rapid wear but it's unlikely to be my riding style as it's not changed and the rear pads on my previous GS and RT didn't need replacing until about 20,000

hope you have beter luck than i got mate, 5950 mls in for service, i asked the dealer to check rear brake pads because i was going on a 1k trip around scotland the following day and replace the pads possibly on warranty as ive had gs's with 3 times the mileage with less wear, i went to pick up bike and was told the pads where ok and not a warranty claim, when i got home i pulled tthe pads out and they were totally fucked, went early next morning to motorworks bought a full set and changed them myself. one thing to check is the the reservoir fluid level, after reading DINGDONGS tip, mine was full to the brim even with the worn pads and could possibly make the pads wear prematurely due to binding, so just take enough fluid out so there is a little bubble at top of sight glass, changing pads is a doddle, i removed the caliper, 10 minute job

No need to remove the calliper just pull the retainer clips and push out the pin slide out the pads easy
