It is a shame considering the price of the bike. Get it powder coated mate

It all depends on your cleaning regime, that doesn't look like it is the result of one season's riding. How old is the bike and do you ride during winter and do you clean it regularly? I have a 2013 R1200GS and you will need to look carefully to find rust on it but then it is stripped in winter, cleaned and ACF50 and washed after long rides.

You not paying for the paint but for all the electronics and gadgets on the bike. Paint is an easy place to save money. Honda used to have some of the thickest layers of paint and older Hondas used to look better than Yamaha and Kawasaki of the same age but think that is also not the case anymore.

I know right I’m not a clean freak but it gets a good clean as and when it needs it acf50 nearly always. 4 years old 16000 miles.

That is interesting, thought ACF50 would have prevented that. Do you ride in winter? What I have seen in other images is that the black painted subframes looks to suffer more rust issues than those painted silver. Also it looks to be newer bikes compared to the first release of the LC. How do the engine casings look?

I thought I had seen that subframe photo before - must have been back in December, perhaps the last time this issue was debated.

Some have had bikes delivered with rust showing, others have found salt damage soon takes hold if they use the bike over winter. ACF50 & regular cleaning helps, but BMW seem to have fended off most complaints - getting is blasted & powder coated is the only realistic option.

All good. bolts look a little bit grubby, final drive swing arm ok wheels and hubs all good. It is what it is my 1150 GSA’s I’ve had a few now
10.000 miles a year same amount of cleaning never looked like that. But anyway all ready for powder coating in morning hopefully back by Friday.

Mine was like that…I had it powder coated and it’s been fine for last couple of year and I expect it will be fine forever more. I don’t agree that it’s the cleaning …I think some of them just have shit paint and/or badly applied. I run out of swear words when I describe my disappointment at the quality and I will never buy another one.

Was yours the black or silver frame?

Or buy another one, clean it and see the difference ?

My car is 6 years old, is cleaned maybe twice a year, is always wet and dirty, but the paintwork is rust free.

Why should a bike costing this much go rusty?

I bet its rusty underneath, the bits you cant see !

mine was 5 years old when it started going like the ops although nowhere near as bad, bad enough to make me get rid, first bmw in 15 years of owning various bikes that i ever experienced rust .

That is simply not acceptable on a supposedly `premium brand` motorcycle.
Obsessive cleaning regime or not, you should not see corrosion bad enough to have to strip half the bike down and repair it after 6 years, nor should we have to baby them or blather all sorts of rust preventing jollop to the extent that to be seeing not to as `neglect`.
......yet we put upwith it.
Do Jap bikes suffer from rust to this extent?
I expect the root cause may be the switch to water-based paints - Mercedes had similar problems on their early 2000 cars i recall.
