What's correct..

Hi Andy, welcome!

don't think your being a pratt at all, don't really think there is such a thing as the right setting, I'm not sure how much is art and how much is science.

I'm only a light weight, 11 stone max but have experimented quite a bit.

If I'm solo going up town I tend to have the shock absorber wound right out as soft as it'll go and the pre-load on the low side of std. For me the back then feels pretty dead but it smooths out the little bumps pretty well.

If I'm on a ride out I still have the rear shock a bit on the soft side and put the preload between std and high. I find this gives a lot more feedback from the rear, particularly if your coming into a corner fairly sharpish.

If I've got a pillion, my son 14 stone, I wind the shock up pretty high and leave the pre-load between std and high.

You certainly can feel a significant difference when you fiddle with the settings and I've described what suits me at the moment but things might change.

I'd be interested to hear what others do.

Hi Andy & welcome.

Like Andy D says it's all pretty much guess work to start with.

For myself i tend to set the pre-load to about 3 clicks and the rebound to standard for solo riding. For two up riding, and solo with camping gear, i set the pre-load to about two thirds and the rebound to standard, or slightly more if it gets a bit bouncy. And for two up and camping gear i wind the pre-load right the way down and the rebound between standard and max.

The front shock, by the way, has one step of pre-load set and that's where it stays.

Works for me, it's just a case of having a bit of a fiddle to find what suits you.

Hope this is of some help.

Cheers for now.

Lee.
