The rear suspension on my 1150 has gone very, very soft. It gives a nice magic carpet ride but also makes it feel like the rear wheel is flat.

Would sending it to someone to get rebuilt be an idea? Or would rebuilding it not hlep in this case? I've wound the preload up to full but still no difference. I'm guessing its just the internal seals that have crapped out?

You've either lost the rear preload (in which case winding the adjuster up would feel very easy and have no effect) or the damping, and it's probably the latter. Flat rear tyre feel is usually a side-effect of not enough damping.

You can get the OE shocks rebuilt, buy a used one off here or eBay or you can buy aftermarket - anything from Hagon (cheapest) to Ohlins (most expensive), with Maxton, Nitron, Wilbers, WP etc in between depending upon your budget.

Hmm. Thanks for that. Looks like I'll send it to Steptoe then to be rebuilt. The standard shock is good enough I reckon.

I have just been through this myself, with the preload adjuster.

The only place I have found that can rebuild the unit is MCT Suspension 16A Charles Industrial estate, stowmarket IP14 5AH 01449 777161, they charge £75 about a 10 day turnaround.

They could actualy do mine as when they took it apart the piston ring had broken and it is not available as a spare part from showa !!!!!!
But they seemed very professional, obviously dont know how good the rebuild is

Thanks for the replys guys. I'll have a think about which way to go.

Got to make it to Scotland for the Skye Soiree first so no action for a few weeks. However went out to the bike today and bounched the rear end (ala MOT tester) and there is a horrible grinding sound.

Not the spring compressing but a grinding from the shock. Not good.

Tried this.

Took the preload all the way off. Tried it.

Put the preload all the way on. Tried it.

There was no difference in the sag between the two, the preload adjuster go a little harder to turn then just stopped (i.e. fully on).
