Rear top box support

Could it be that the 10mm plastic is a vario mounting plate, whereas the 4mm is the normal infill panel?. Not sure which you have on your bike..?

My bike (2019 GS) has the standard rear carrier; I did not buy the vario boxes. The Sw-motech reinforcement unit fits ok. Perhaps if the bike has a strengthened carrier the SW- Motech item is not required?

I think you are right. However you would think the supplier would make it clear that it is not compatible with vario boxes? What threw me was the instructions said "some force required" so it got some and later had no choice but to cut it out so going to be difficult to return. Will be phoning them Monday.

The Givi 6kg limit is just legal talk, I´ve loaded it with way more than that

Maybe, maybe not.

When I fitted the Trekker 58l to mine I went for the monokey plate as Givi confirmed to me that there was no restriction, other than the 10kg of the Trekker.

I felt more comfortable keeping to the manufacturers information, particularly with the wife on the back.

Malcopopolo, I agree with you. Good luck on Monday. Tell them that no information was provided that the goods were not suitable for use with vario boxes, especially as they are a BMW product, so SW Motech ought to know about the options and warn buyers.

Malcopopolo, just a heads up before your phone call on Monday, the SW-Motech site states the following for the item
“Reinforcement kit for orig. BMW rack BMW R 1200 GS LC 1G12 (K50) (16-19)”.

I have not found anything that says it does not fit a BMW rack for Vario top boxes

I imagine the default starting point for the aftermarket manufacturers is with a standard bike. i.e. one with the standard infill panel, not the vario rack.

"Some force required" -- is that a means of pre-tensioning the whole assembly possibly maybe:nenau

Bugger that, mine is a IG13 and a 1250, ive ordered one so looks like it will be no bloody use to me. Anyone want one at cost ?

Equivalent message on the SW-Motech site for the 2019 R1250GS:

“Reinforcement kit for orig. BMW rack BMW R 1250 GS 1G13 (K50) (18-19).“

It should fit yours if it has the original rack like mine. But based on posts above, you might have a problem if you’ve got fittings for a vario topbox.

No fittings for vario box afaik. Ive already fitted the Givi SRA5108 plate but was going to fit this bracket for piece of mind really. But id imagine if the rack is fit for pillion to hang onto it would be ok for v47 topbox.

Its all in the small print. I really forced it hence the problem and now damaged so cannot send it back. if the instructions made no reference I would have realised more quickly that the install was incorrect and incorrect and could have sent it back or sold it.

Luckily it is only £35 so could have been worse.

Contacted the supplier. Quite a neutral response and claimed never had an issue and sold loads.... He did say that he forwarded on my emails to SW Motech.

Did not quite understand what i was on about regarding the vario insert and standard stock item.

i get mine tomorrow,im determind to make it fit with my vario insert!

Therein could be the basis of the problem. If the manufacturer and suppliers don't know there is a difference they are going to continue to supply parts that may not fit. There is an almost identical product supplied by another manufacturer (Wunderlich/Nippy Norman's?). I wonder if they have different versions, or have a design that fits both?

Support bracket.

Dug these out of the garage today so if anybody needs them let me know. Not sure on new prices...£30 posted for the metal bracket, £15 posted for the plastic infill any good

Plastic infill price is very keen...

The Touratech looks the same as the SW.

SW have not come back to me. Thats how good their after sales is boys and girls. Supplier not interested.

Unfortunately the only way to remove the bracket was cutting it so cannot send back.
