Looking for a way out
I noticed as a neared work today that my rear brake didn't feel like it should.
When I arived I discovered that the whole right side of the back wheel is covered in oil :(
I think its a recovery truck home

Looks like something has let go - Any obvious Culprit ?

Big bearing and seal :nenau I have never done one myself but that sounds like the symptoms.

RAC estimate 1 3/4 hrs before a patrol turns up. He won't be able to recover me, he see if can fix it and only then call for recovery. Stand procedure apparently......

Same happened to my 1100 2 weeks ago with no prior symtoms or warning. Just fuelling up and noticed the dreaded drip.

All the bearings and seals were shot so had to replace the lot.

the charming lady now tells me that they have an 80% fix rate, so will not despatch a recovery straight away. I guess I can see their point of view, but equally, I really can't see Mr Patrol fitting new bearings....

They have to work off their script, unless Steptoe turns up driving the recovery truck with the parts in his pocket :D

Steptoe's pockets are a no go area for me.

Patrol man just called. He can't pursuade them to send out a truck either :(

40 Minutes. Anybody want to recommend a competitor to the RAC, my customer loyality isn't feeling very strong at the moment...

I am with them at the moment, but it runs out next week and their days are numbered methinks :augie

Well it took them 4 hours to get a recovery truck to me :anger

I think I'll post the rest in the rant forum!

Oh yes and the wheel is now 'grindy grindy' when I turn it. More than a seal me thinks :(

Before you join a competitor check there policy on direct recovery, you may find that there policy is also to send a patrol to assess before ordering up a truck.

Another reason for sending a patrol first is to confirm your id, membership card and second form of id,ie driving license.I believe the cost to the rac for fraudulant use of membership is huge.

I had to use recovery that I've got through Carole Nash recently when my clutch slave cyl packed in, they were specialist breakdown service SOS Motorcycle Recovery. They came in a kitted out Renault Master van, there in 45 mins, no fannying around waiting for another truck, straight in the back of the van. Got staged up 300 odd miles, 100 miles at a time as their drivers have their own patch then last guy brought us up from Durham to Edinburgh.

Not sure who CN use in Scotland as SOS don't have any lads stationed up here.

The three drivers were most impressed with the regularity of picking up BMs. Sounds like we're keeping them in a job!

Oddly enough that was the main justification of the 'manager' I spoke to when I got grumpy.

personally I don't buy that - the patrol man didn't look at any ID, not even my membership card. I've been a member for 20 years and had the GS recovered once before when the immobiliser lived up to its name.
