I have just done 1700 miles on my 9-3-05 R12GS and I noticed some intermittent grinding vibration at low speed in a high gear.
With the bike one the centre stand I can feel movement in the rear wheel bearing (hands pushing and pulling opposite sides of the wheel) about 2mm at wheel rim. Is this problem that those Bavarian Muppets fixed in 2004? , is this a recall job??

Mine (July 04 build with 18,000 miles) recently had a slight amount of movement when hot which it had never had before - I've been keeping an eye on it following other reported problems.

It also had a slight oil weep around the bearing cover - it's due in to the dealers now for a replacement final drive and disc carrier when the parts arrive.

My 05/04 build had the final drive replaced under warranty after found 1.5mm movement at the wheel rim. The fault isn't a recall, just dealt with, as and when it arises.

Does anyone know how many 12's have had this rear drive problem? Is it dangerous to continue to use "until parts arrive"??.

I hope the Japs can clone the R12GS ready for my next bike. Until then I'll keep that plastic grin.

I smile when I read things like this from a country that could never build cars of any quality.

In the few days between the dealer ordering the parts and fitting them, they were quite happy for me to continue using the bike.
With my fault, the play varied from 0 to 1.5mm without apparent reason.
The job only takes a couple of hours for the dealer to complete.

I have just found that the wheel movement is due to the swing arm sliding from side to side(1-2mm). I do not think there is any slop in the rear hub. In any case it's a job for CW to do and advise if safe to ride.

Odd reaction. True, our car industry when we had one varied between excellent and crap - bit like the recent All Blacks you might say. But why that prevents us from chosing between a Jap bike and a Kraut bike, I cant understand.

Not sure which country your talking about, but some have only one export worth having, and that will never have a mechanical breakdown and is great with mint sauce !
:jester

Oh and by-the-way my GS is now fixed.... the swing arm bearings were lose. All is now well.....................and relax................
