Hi I need to take the back wheel off my 2005 gs1200 to get a new tyre

At the back wheel it has star studs

If I go to a garage to buy a tool
What do I ask for and what size are they

Thanks

And is there anything I need to know about removing the back wheel
or is it just undo the bolts and it comes off?

Are you sure you are up to this job?

Those 'star stud' things are undone with a T50 Torx bit.

It's all in the handbook.

Or, see here http://www.r1200gs.info/garage/wheels.html

They are "TORX" fasteners - on my 2007 model they are T50.
Presume yours is the same. I've only had it 3 weeks, so the wheel hasn't been off yet.
I went to Halfords and got a set of sockets and a set of keys (so that's internal & external, like sockets and Allen keys) on clip rails for about £20.
As far as I can tell there hardly a hex head or cross head fastener on the bike.

make sure you torque them up properly, if you tighten them too much the heads will shear off. correct setting is in handbook

The other advice I think I've read is ABSOLUTELY NO ANTI-SEIZE - someone had a wheel come loose after thinking they were 'helping' by using 'copper slip' or such like on the studs.

this is true, it's in the handbook. i think it's more to do with potential for overtightening than studs coming loose though :nenau

before it was pointed out to me, i used to copperslip all wheel studs, but never had one come loose.
