After giving the bike a little clean up the other day I started the engine while it was in neutral on the centre stand... and the back wheel started turning.

Not fast and I stopped it easily touching it with my foot, but I was surprised... when on the bike in N there is no pull or anything...

Is this normal or is there a problem with the clutch?

Cheers.

Normal, while the gearbox oil is cold. Try it when the the bike's hot - it won't do it then.

I thought immediately that this was a 'wind-up' and then realised this is the 1200 section  Now i see why all the comments about this section in the B&B section :blast

I won't make the mistake of coming in here again in a hurry :D

You can use duct tape to hold the brake pedal down until the gearbox oil is hot then the rear wheel should remain stationary :thumb2

Justin, Please dont worry about this, as they all do that Sir, as someone on here just posted. I would only start to worry if it starts to rev up on its own, selects gear on its own, and then buggers off down the road on its own. Mind you if it does that, youll have to phone the insurance company and the plod (on your own, lol) P.S. Dont leave it running on its side or main stand at idle for too long they do get a bit hot. I have a pretty good picture of glowing downpipes, after leaving mine running on its mainstand. Apparently its not good for the engine internals.

HTH.

Or park it and don't ride? It's only going to break down on you, blow the FD.. stop working...

It's just the oil drag in the gear box, my old (2005) did it, but my 2010 model doesn't, but they changed the gearbox design a bit.

It's normal so no need to worry.

Just pop it in reverse and see if it goes backwards, if it does its fine, if not the clutch is slipping.

Surely you would only ever use Gibson Fretboard approved Lemon Oil?

Or are you a Dunlop guy?

I use home-brewed oil from a tree identified for me by Mr Sherlock Holmes. In the guise of Dr Watson, I took Holmes to an arboretum, pointed to a tree, and asked him:

"By Jove, Holmes, what's that?"

and he replied...

"A lemon tree, my dear Watson."
