Rebuilding Paralever shock

I finaly managed to find an R100R rear shock

But sadly once fitted I noticed the seal has probably gone it weeps when I bounce the bike, leaving a little residue on the rod.

This raises a couple of questions.

1, Is it likely to settle down with use?
I'm inclined to say no it won't but am I wrong?

2, It's a BW OE fitment gas/oil shock made by Showa. Can this shock be rebuilt with new seals etc?

3, The supplier has said; send it back for a refund.
But if it can be rebuilt would I be better off doing this or going and buying a new Hagon shock for £230.00? Bearing in mind the OE BW shock is £349.00.

Your thoughts/expertise as ever gratefully received.

Just about any shock absorber can be rebuilt and there are firms out there that will do it. They machine the end off, fit a threaded cap and replace the internals seals. I don't have the details of the one I'm thinking of so try Googling for it. I'm told they'll refurb a shock absorber for less than £100.

I spoke to both these guys this morning as it happens. Mark at MH said there is no way the BW shock can be rebuilt (I think he didn't want the work maybe). It's a shame because he's only ten miles up the road.
The shock is packed and ready for posting to Falcon in the morning
