Two recall notices dropped onto the mat today, regarding shaft drive replacements and new service dchedule, all well and good as one is for my r1250gsa but the other is for my 64 plate r1200gsa ( the turd) which I part exchanged in 2017 and then eventually went back to the factory to be dissected ., it appears never to have been re registered

Spoke to my dealer, the replacement shaft at 50k is free. The check and new service item is a paid for option. Although reading the notice you might think it is a free option. How they can charge for something to be checked because of their flaky shafts I have no idea. Best bit, it is an hour and half labour if you want to get it checked after the 20,000k, which is around 12.5k miles. He said he has had a lot of calls - bet he has

You have a choice to get it checked at 12000 miles or not, either way it doesn’t get logged. Then it’s replaced at 36000 miles anyway.

Sceptical me thinks the 12000 mile checks are a way to claw money back. If it goes bang between 0 and 36k they’ll change it if it’s been checked or not.

Got the letter today. My 2016 GSA has 33K on it, so I’ll book it in for the replacement when it gets to 36K. They won’t get any money out of me, it’s their recall and it’s their problem to fix it.

Yes, but the point is, you have to pay to have it checked, which is an hour and a half labour on top of your normal service or extra if you have just had a service (I had mine on Wed). Think the letter is misleading

Just had my recall letter.....for the 1250GS I traded in last December, nothing yet for the RS that replaced it!

Got mine today too.

Only done 9k on mine so I’ll file it for when I’ve done a bit more, or when I sell the bike.

Got mine today regarding replace of the drive shaft, as well as outstanding cir-clips on the rear foot legs. Soonest Welwyn can do it is the 24tj of May ?

I got two letters today, one for the GS that got totalled by a myopic female driver in September 2022. Obviously the mothership still thinks I own it even though it was written off.

I got one today for an R1200R I part exd in Dec 2019. I checked Gov site it has never been taxed since nor re MOT when it ran out.
Not for sale either. Weird huh?

Is it 36k ;) the small print says every 30k cardon shaft mileage, not vehicle mileage

wonder what that equals in real miles

I sold my bike a year ago lol

My 64 plater had never had an MOT , been taxed or insured since I sold it and I knew it sat around the dealers for 6 months ( even after over another £2000 of warranty work before I sold it the numerous issues were never sorted) and I know one person who test rode it and said the ride was sh*ite as was the gearbox , BMW had given me an extra 12 months warranty on the bike for free and when I part exed it they (BMW) bumped up the part ex value.

Eventually disappeared from the dealer and a service staff member admitted it went back to BMW Germany for investigation and disposal .

I got the letter today, but it's for my RS that I traded in 7 weeks ago, I have seen the bike at a local bike meet. So I may be able to pass the letter on.

I got two letters recently- one for my current RS and one for my previous RS that I sold to Superbike Factory a year ago. It was reregistered/V5 issued in February. I’m surprised the system is so laggy.

Nothing is a surprise, I`m still waiting for the fork recall letter and everything thereafter........

Has mine for the RS a few weeks ago. I never had the circlips done on the footpegs as mine are fine (no chance of rusting as bike is cleaned and ACF's after every wet ride) so they're going to do that and the cardon shaft check next month with the service and MOT. Mine's now out of warranty so future services I'll do myself, and what I save can go towards the final drive maintenance every 12K miles.

I asked my dealer about the check on my 1250RT, they told me I had to pay for the check and future checks would be added to the service schedule as an option, But it would be an hour and a half labour at £££. So it is not free. So if you get it free, that would be good to know

I did specifically asked about the cardon check as it was a recall item and was informed initial recall check was free (which made sense) but as you say, future ones are an option which are paid for. I won't be paying for the initial check as it's their recall. I've never yet paid for any boxer recall checks. They've always been FOC as it's a manufacturer liability. As for future cardon checks, I won't bother. If it's ok now it ought to remain ok, and is a completely separate issue to the shaft spline corrosion issues. They're also going to carry out the drillling and plugging of the shaft drive casing which was also part of an earlier recall notice (GS bikes were done first as they were deemed more at risk).
