Recall Notices

My dealer is unsure at this stage whether or not the checks on the cardan are included when a pre-paid Service Plan is in place.

I did specifically asked about the cardon check as it was a recall item and was informed initial recall check was free (which made sense) but as you say, future ones are an option which are paid for. I won't be paying for the initial check as it's their recall. I've never yet paid for any boxer recall checks. They've always been FOC as it's a manufacturer liability. As for future cardon checks, I won't bother. If it's ok now it ought to remain ok, and is a completely separate issue to the shaft spline corrosion issues. They're also going to carry out the drillling and plugging of the shaft drive casing which was also part of an earlier recall notice (GS bikes were done first as they were deemed more at risk).
I asked the same. And they said the letter didn’t say it was a recall but advised so not free. My bike was in for its yearly service and they didn’t do the check. If I wanted it I have to take it back and pay. Seems a bit disjointed

I got a separate cardan shaft check letter and a letter regarding change of maintenance plan covering what you've said (the latter being optional and customer payable all except for the 36K mile FOC shaft change). It's confusing. I called the dealership who considered the initial cardan shaft check and final drive housing mod were not customer chargeable. I'll confirm that again when I drop the bike off. If that turns out not to be the case, I won't be doing it as my bike's transmission is very smooth at all revs, unlike a new RT I rode the other day which I'm convinced has transmission issues due to the excessive vibes. My GSA was the same, with vibes kicking in between 3 and 4K rpm (had to have shaft checked for alignment).
