Recalls/Problems with new R1250GS/A

They said that they came as a set so they did both.

Great. It gave me a new solution. The ticking noise was only on the left hand side of my R1250GS after ride 1200km. How many km are you currently riding after changing both tensioners? Thank you very much.

I have done about 1000 miles since the change of tensioner. The bike has a total of 10,000 miles on it now. Just waiting for the lockdown to finish to get back out there.

what a stupid post. Grow up.

A not so stupid post it seems in hindsight hey Alan.

Agreed, very helpful. Have been thinking about trading in 9t for GS and this has helped stem some of the enthusiasm. I'd keep the 9t if I could sit on it for more than 2 hrs, so maybe need to address that first.

Don’t let it put you off. I changed last May and have no issues along with thousands of others.if you started a thread entitled “I bought a 1250 and have had no issues” it would be longer than this one, but oh so boring of course!

And it would boil the piss of all those twunts that don’t even own one yet manage to make disparaging remarks about them. Sure if you have been on here for long enough, you will know who they are.

Hi,

Traded my 2017 R1200GSA for a new R1250GSA Rallye which I picked up a few weeks ago. Well pleased with he new bike although not clocking up near as many miles as I would like due to the lockdown. I'm hoping all the issues mentioned here have been addressed at this stage and that I don't experience any of them. This is my 6th GSA and all in all haven't had many problems. With my 06 I had the fuel Pimp Issue. Then I had the antennae ring issues. Only other issue I was aware of was the fork recall that I got done. Dealer sorted everything every time with no issues, always gives me a loaner for servicing etc. Oh forgot I got engine bars replaced once as was what looked like a bit of rust (Not surprising s don't really wash the bikes, give them a good dose of ACF50 initially then rarely get a wash except when they are in for service) on them and got passenger seat replaced when I noticed a tiny split on the seam. (Probably from me trying to get my leg over).
So enjoying the new bike so far, hoping all the testing issues sorted with them and pretty comfortable that if I do have a problem BMW will sort.

1200 have many little problems fixed by BMW, so normal for 1250 to have some new problems, all bikes have problems any brand, it is mechanical device, but if you want no problems, then buy Dacia style bike for peanuts and not complain anymore, because you only pay peanuts.

I have no issues at all with people posting here about a problem they may be experiencing with their bike. What I considered stupid about Happyjoe’s original post was the lack of information about any issue he may have been experiencing, or even if he actually owned a gs/gsa. His tone was pure gleeful schadenfreude and contributed nothing. Too much of that here sometimes.

Sure, I appreciate any bike is going to have issues, particularly new models; my previous 310GS had a recall but was otherwise perfect. Back in the day I had a GPZ500 when it was first launched, that had a couple of recalls, kept stalling in very low temperatures (I must've been a hardy biker back then). The reason for considering the trade is a change in circumstances as a result of Covid; looks like a monthly need for 280 mile each way journey up north across the border for a year or so. The standard 9t isn't ideal, but could be upgraded (rear shock/seat/windshield). I was thinking GS might offer more weather protection, but its been pointed out that's fairly marginal after a couple of easy 9t mods. The 1250 GS is undoubtedly more capable, with more road presence but also more complicated, and more expensive! I'll take a GS for a test drive when the 9t is in for service next month and see how it feels. Hearing some of the accounts here of early teething troubles has taken the edge off rampant enthusiasm for change, which is a good thing. Very fortunate to have choice between such good machines.

I love the bikes - has to have a new 1250 engine fitted at 6k miles because it was rattling like a b*stard.

Ain’t complaining - love the bikes - shame my first engine only lasted 6,000 miles.

Hope this isn’t seen as a polarised opinion!
