Recalls/Problems with new R1250GS/A

Well i bought my first ever Bmw GS, a 1250GSA rallye, picked it up did 44 miles home, parked it in the garage and the next day there was a puddle of blue tinted oil at the bottom of the centre stand, after looking closer i spotted oil on the shock spring and it had pooled onto the stand guard. I took it straight back to the dealer and they've diagnosed a shock failure and replaced the unit. Is shock fluid blue? From what i researched clutch fluid is

44 is quite good mileage for those

Both my previous esa bikes have lasted (the shocks) around 15k miles, which i think is probably ok, given that any shock would be past its best at that mileage. My last two modern esa2 bikes never reached those miles. I have figured out after 20 years and numerous bmw the best bmw ownership is: Pcp, 5k miles per year, 2 years, swap bike, repeat. No issues, ever. Just perennial £300 per month outlay for top of range new bike ownership for life...

My "NEW" 1250 gs te didn't get out of the showroom door!! (1/6/2019) they fired it up screen lit "refer to technician" or similar.......computer says ok!! restart get to carpark gate same again!!! done all of 50metres................faulty pin on O2 sensor!!! 700miles on and first service done (£150) all is well, after owning a Yamaha FJR for 3(fault free)years i first thought "this does not bode well" however the 3 year warranty/breakdown is always handy i suppose.

More electronics more to go wrong, the price we have to pay for evolution, just look at the amount of high end cars broken down, in the old days, you would never see a Mercedes or BMW broken down.

Bought my new GSA1250 in April after 6 weeks it developed a rear suspension fault, software update to start with. Then the front brake calipers started leaking. At 10 weeks old the driveshaft failed. Then at 3 months the left hand cylinder started rattling. At this point I refused to have it back. BMW are replacing the bike with a brand new one that I collect next week. So to all the people that think these wonderful bikes are amazing, yes they are but they do go wrong, it's a love hate relationship.

All bikes go wrong. The way the Manufacturer and dealer handles issue is the safety net. Unlike some other manufacturers, try getting Harley to replace things even during the warranty period.

As most probably know - there is a known issue on the calipers.
There now shouldn’t be any getting through the distribution centre however the odd one is so they are on hold at dealers but they don’t know until the PdI happens and they are logged into the system at which point the computer flags the chassis number instead of head office sending it downstream.

My 1250 GSA currently in BMW with Fault in engine control and panniers and Topbox to get new locks. Still awaiting diagnosis, but dealer I could not fault travelled 100 miles to pick bike up from me at home to have problems sorted. Will post again when I know more. Good news was 27 degrees was last Sunday on Moray coast in Scotland and that was it cooling down from 30 degrees. I was happy that I was far enough away from Thunder in the Glens at Aviemore that no Harley rider witnessed breakdown. Just glad it never happened attending the rally. lol

Only real problem ive had on my 1250GSA is the silly rate it goes through rear brake pads!!

But the pistons in the rear caliper had cracked but has just been replaced on my 12000 service at Preston Bowker so no worries.

I bloody love the bike, does everything i need :thumby:

I had that same error message last week. This week the dealer had it in for a look and eventually fitted a new fuel pump. Said it was the second one they'd done...

Mine did that the day after the first service and started missing turned out fuel pump had started to break up..

Me To I,m 10,500 mile sin from March 1st and she's been faultless my only gripe is the connection to the sena headset is sometime annoying

Why are people surprised that their new bikes are faultless? 10K miles in a one year old car and we consider it still as-new. 10K miles + a few months on a GS and we seem to still have our fingers crossed LoL!

It is bound to happen sooner or later.
Don't panic!

Please report any problems or recalls related to this wonderful news edition of the large GS/A.

1250 gsa.....14000 miles in six months and guess what...... not a single problem.....cracking bike
