Recalls/Problems with new R1250GS/A

Nothing I'm reading makes me want to trade in my 15 plate 1200 TE

It's got more corrosion than it should have but mechanically it's been perfect.

Hopefully I will keep it for 10 years and then decide what to buy next.

If they were made better I would have traded up every three years but I'm not throwing good money after bad.

I traded my 16 plate for the 1250 and mine had 18000 miles and mint no issues at all , I do ride for pleasure only at weekends and euro trips , I changed as the new 1250 for me offered so much more. A decision which has proven to be rite as no issues with this one and a better all round bike.
Situation allows me to change every few years and my trade ins are always in top condition , no corrosion marks etc as I look after them better than my grand kids lol.
If your happy tho fair play.

Yeah, my mate has just traded in his '14 reg GSA for the new R1250GSA Rallye and he's really happy.

He's pretty sure he'll upgrade now to the Touratech Extreme ESA kit as well, being as though I've been singing its praises :D

I'm going to stick with my R1200GSA though, not getting involved in the Beta Test Program no matter how alluring it might be :blagblah:P:blast

Good point , I did the original Beta with the 13 plate lc and had issues but were always sorted by BMW so my faith in development is fine , I can worry if I wanted to , but I have 3 years warrantee and BMW back up.
They even lent me a new GS (2015 ) to go away to Spain as mine had worn cams , cant say fairer than that , okay when I got back the repaired bike blew up a few miles down the road, but hey ho , they gave me a new one. Winner
All bikes can have issues, established or not.

Fair enough, but I'd rather not have catastrophic failures where it is a roll of the dice whether it kills me or not.

BMW do not have a good track record here.

Warranty won't replace me.

To put your mind at rest , I have thrashed the new bike to its limits and its fine , same way as I have treated all my bikes and the new bike has been thro all the testing prior to the shift cam, my riding mate had his let go at high speed when the cam chain snapped , that was a 14/15 plate I think , made a rite mess (of the engine)
But all was fine , you worry to much , a bus could kill you as easy... I remember riding my 250 / 350 / 500 two stokes with one hand always on the clutch.. still here lol

Yes but, but....

It just seems such a lottery whether you get a good un or a bad un.

I'm sure the vast majority are great and the owners are very happy but too many problems out there for my liking.

Have you ever heard of Jap bikes having all these issues?

Perhaps I was lucky until I got this bike but I expected better from BMW

Jap models have their problems too, its just that its all kept hush hush.

True as this is a BMW forum lol... I have had jap bikes with more issues to be honest and Austrian ones

VTR , head gone , 17k , KTM 990 Super Duke R , rear cylinder leaking and bad oil consumption , Ducatti Multi Strada electrical , the list can go on and on.
I stay with BMW as the company supports and solves the issue all the others NO..

Well thats my attitude too. Although it must be said i've had plenty brand new bikes that heven't given me any trouble over the last few years, but the one that makes me smile the most is the GS/A. My current bike is my last bike so it will have to do me either till i drop or it does. PIG IN SHIT ? YEAH thats me.:augie:eek::green gri:D

Lets hope its the latter:thumby::thumby:

When I bought my GS I thought I would never buy another make.

Four years later I'm not sure I will ever buy another one.

I have had Jap bikes for over 30 years and very few problems and never experienced rust on such a new bike.

Vines told me that my bike was from a bad batch but didn't want to help me.

I guess all the time people keep buying them nothing will change.

The 'bad batch' was called the R1200

The new 'batch' is called the R1250

I bought the bike new so it came with a warranty.

The stand was replaced under warranty due to corrosion but when the replacement started to rust after a few months along with engine etc Vines were useless.

I hope that the R1250 is better than the R1200 because people spending their hard earned cash deserve better than the experience that I have had.

If the finish of my bike was as good as the mechanicals I would have been delighted.

I take it you didn't just leave it at that and harassed them to death about your engine corrosion?

I tried as hard as I could but no joy.

Due to work commitments at the time I had to draw a line under it but it left me very bitter.

No worries mate. We've all done exactly the same because our time is finite and has lots of demands. It just irks me that they know 90% of people have to give up.
