Recalls/Problems with new R1250GS/A

Try getting that service from a KTM dealer , it would be impossible , BM despite all the knocks always come up trumps, I had a bike in the workshop prior to a euro trip , they lent me a 350 mile old gs to do my10 day trip , no questions , fixed the bike , I rejected it , they then gave me a new 2016 Tripple black , free service and further discounts along the line. No other manufacturers do this.
I may be lucky but my 1250 is fine and it’s been abused . The gs is a great bike and the support is even better , I’m my experience
The Ktm bit refers to all other makes if it offends , sorry Knutty

You’re right. No other manufacturers do this, but that may just be because no other manufacturer builds such a pile of shite that fails regularly !!

My thoughts too.

The list of failures (RT rear shocks, GS front forks, GS brakes weeping, loose spokes, engine paint. ........) it is mind boggling!

Mines been great , as with the other 3 riders I ride with the new 1250 , great bikes no issues all ridden as they should be . No problems here Vicar

Every Ktm I have had v twin , at around 15 k the rear pot leaks oil from the base gasket , a warrentee from this manufacturer is as useful as a chocolate fire guard . Don’t start me on Ducati ........

its a good service yes (and we pay for it!), but we should not be having these issues in the first place. I can't talk for 'other' bikes as I've never had one from new, but just wish BM would make the quality they did a few years ago... why have they gone down hill with their Engineering so much over the past few years??

This one has, but the others haven’t. ;)

What’s KTM got to do with this? We know they’re rubbish. :D

The sheer number of bikes BMW shift compared to any other manufacturer makes a direct comparison very difficult.
if there's a hypothetical 20% failure rate, there's going to be more noise with one manufacturer vs another.

I had the same issues with my 1250gs, replacement bike was issued, courtesy bike during the interim period whilst it was been built and the process couldn't of been any easier.

That's true , but they were the 1200 , had issues but all fixed , bikes replaced , I always seemed to come out on top . My riding mate blew his up (1200) on the extended warrentee and they replaced the whole engine and ecu , cant moan at that either .
As Grant 123 says its a great product , out sells all so there will be issues and forums always accelerate the issues to a Tsunami level 10

So I've just had a call from BMW, the guy admitted he might have gotten the specifics a little wrong and to wait until Williams call me (hopefully today). So apparently the head of BMW UK Customer Service has been brought into my particular case and has seen all the emails and has said he's very appreciative at the way I've handled this so far, and that I've been very specific in my grievance and how complimentary I've been of the experience with the 2 dealers I've had. I'm told he also said that he appreciates my frustration and that I deserve an explanation as to the cause of the noise.

Meanwhile, Williams have apparently been authorised to investigate the noise further and found (this is the bit he was sketchy about) that the timing was out and a crack has been found in one of the camshafts. He did stress it would be better to wait for Williams to relay the exact info but thats what I was told.

Typically they would replace just the damaged parts but they have decided to replace the entire left cylinder head and all it's gubbins.

The guy at BMW UK has said that IF I decide to keep the bike they are willing to add a 4th years warranty on for free AND give me £500 to spend at any BMW dealer, but advised I should wait until the bike is returned to see if I am happy with the current state of it and am happy to go forward with it.

Well it seems my woes continue. This information was incorrect. Apparently the top dude at BMW clicked on the wrong case number, Williams haven't even looked at my bike so the information about the damage is about someone elses bike not mine. Also the 4th years warranty and £500 of store credit were for the other bike also so not meant for me.

Williams are looking at it today but based on their assessment from last time I'm not hopeful they'll find anything wrong sadly.

Should have bought a KTM mate ..... :D

(Hope it gets sorted for you .. :thumb )

Ooh, that'll set Delboy into a rage! :D

No it won’t, i m happy with my bike despite the fact it might leak brake fluid all over the place, fail to start because of a duff battery or even lunch its own engine. I will never buy anything coloured orange so its statement that means didly to me

What a total fuk up ! Can’t even make an assessment on the correct bike ! FFS ....hope it all ends well and in your favour

So, I've just had a call from Williams Manchester, the bike is ready to collect. Apparently they did manage to find an issue, the timing was slightly out, but also on the left cylinder they found that the valve clearances were "massively" out, their words not mine. So new shims ordered and fitted and apparently the bike now sounds right. I won't know until Saturday when I collect but hopefully this is the end of an almost 3 month pain in the ar$e.

Considering the new engine only has 473 miles on it, I'm not overly encouraged by the longevity of the bike but we shall see.
