Anyone know of a good cheap Hotel near Metz, there is an F1 Hotel at Metz which is very cheap, has anyone used this?

I am really after a Hotel with safe parking, don't mind if it is a bit further than Metz towards Strasbourg, but must be before Strasbourg.

F1's are F1's whether they are in Metz, Avignon or Boulogne.

Look at the location on Streetview.

Me? I'd find come thing in the middle of Metz or close by. Just Ggogle 'Metz hotels' and go from there. The viaMichelin website is quite good but there are loads of others. Metz has all the usual 'safe bet' hotel chains, like Ibis etc.

Security? I wouldn't worry about it too much. Just take reasonable precautions.

Pont a Mousson is not a bad place, just south of Metz. I often stop there for a coffee or lunch.

Nancy, too, but take the motorway to go around it as it can be a bit of a grind.

When I'm looking at accommodation, a lot depends on what I want to do when I get there.

If I'm riding all day and arriving late afternoon/early evening and it's just a one night stay, then a cheap overnight in the outskirts of a town/city is good enough as long as there is somewhere to eat nearby.

If it's a longer stay, then somewhere central is preferable, as I don't have to use the bike to see the city etc.

As Wapping says, Formula1's are the same regardless of where you are in France, usually near an Industrial Estate and out of town.

Accorhotels have a selection of Hotels depending on your budget and are worth a look (Formula1 are part of this group) http://www.accorhotels.com/gb/booking/hotels-list.shtml

Generally speaking, Hotels in France are of a decent standard and will offer safe parking for your bike if it is available.

Good luck with your search.:thumb2

Premier Classe are similar to F1 - usually a Campanile next door that will have a restaurant. Like F1s, many have gated car parks. As Wapping says, have a gander on google maps as it might show you, or just show a bit of undeveloped scrub like the Metz Est location!

Stayed at the Ibis Metz central very nice with loads of places to eat/ bars etc within walking distance parked bikes right outside :thumb

Heading that way late May and have booked an overnight at the Ibis Meta Nord, around £45.
Can't recommend it as I've never stayed there before and Street view puts it near a busy looking road but it'll do fine for me.
Booking Ibis' pretty much means you've an idea of what you're getting - Travelodge type accommodation.

Each to their own, but I've always preferred to get off the autoroute and go to a pre-booked hotel in a small town.

You don't have to stray far, can check out the area with Tripadvisor, google-earth, streetview etc............

Reckon it might add 20 minutes to your journey at the end of the day, but at least you can kick back in the evening sun, with a couple of beers, before having a decent nosebag?

Al :)

F1's are shit. Communal toilets and showers. People piss in the sink in there room at night cos no room toilet. Full of eastern European workers who are on sites around the town, 3 or 4 to a room.
May be Im snob but I have grown out of that type of cost saving.
The Ibis are easy and everywhere.

I'm with Blackal but it doesn't always work.

For example, lots of bods like the safe comfort of a British run B&B or hotel. I have nothing against them at all, recognising that they tick all the boxes in that particular niche in the market. Good luck to the bods who run them :thumb2

When you have a large group, north of say eight, then finding enough rooms can become a problem, solved only by hitting the chains. The Ibis hotel in St Omer is a good example. Nicely central, reasonable parking and everything works. Not the most exciting hotel, identical to all the others. But it serves a purpose and it's easy to nip down to the main square for a pint or scoff.

F1's I don't do because I don't have to or want to. Usually stuck on a bleak industrial site, with the usual gang of child molesters, fugitives, brigands and pikey bikers for company. No thanks.

As Wapping says, Pont a Mousson is ok, Hotel Bagatelle is not bad. I stayed there a couple of times heading south and it has secure parking with enough eateries around it.

That's because you can book their rooms direct, smaller places put only a few rooms on booking.com for instance but often if you contact them direct you will find they have more rooms available.

I always contact the privatly owned hotels direct, not least as I think it's polite to do so.

Some of the smaller privately owned Logis hotels do not have enough rooms, particularly if I have a large bunch who all want single rooms. It's not ways the case of course.

I know that bods do like the bookings websites, possibly because it avoids them speaking to foreigners in foreign :D

Used Logis sometimes too. I know what you mean about contacting direct, but there are some advantages to using Booking.com too.........

1) There is clearer assurance that you have booked the correct rooms on the correct date.

2) It allows you to quickly find a suitable hotel either in the exact location, or in an ever-expanding radius.

3) Being able to see at the time that you have successfully booked the rooms, not have to wait for a small hotel to return your e-mail.

(we have booked our 7 nights' hotels, easily - but I'm still waiting for the woman with the gite - to send me the e-mail with her bank details for the deposit, and to cement the booking - despite me phoning her...........)

Those 3 work for me :thumb2

I want to know what's wrong with pissing in the sink :nenau

I'm a fan of Logis, but I guess if yer on a budget then a thirty / forty pound saving a night will soon add up ... :thumb2

Nothing, just so long as you take the plug out when you do it.;)

You are not the first bod to tell me it's quite good.

I'll give it a whirl :beerjug:
