recommend me a battery

Get any (decent brand) AGM battery.

If the bike does long stretches without being used, consider the option of keeping it trickle charged/connected to a battery tender. It really makes the difference. (I killed a few before keeping them topped up).

are those yellow "moto batt" ones any better? do they last longer?

I doubt it. Just go with the cheaper, AGM version of the Exide and save yourself £13. Plus it has more CCA than the Motobatt or gel Exide.

I would agree with the Exide AGM choice, never had problems and they do seem to last well if well cared for. On an airhead had one last 10yrs+

I'd be interested to know how old your XR was when it needed a replacement battery?

Was it kept on a Optimate or similar?

Thanks

I bought the 2016 bike in 2018. I assumed the battery was the original as it was one of BMW's Made in Brazil jobs. Replaced around the bike's 4th birthday last spring. The battery was only put on an Optimate 4 if it needed it, which was only a couple of times during winter.

The battery on my R1200RS is now 4.5 years old. Again, only charged in winter if it is low which has been even rarer than the XR as it is normally used more in winter.

I’d recommend lithium. JJH
Me too. Big weight saving.

I had some money a while back (couple of years ago). Bought an Alliant lithium battery. So far I can't fault it, even in this cold weather. Left the bike standing for nearly 4 weeks and it started on first press of the button. I've never used a trickle charger...

Stick with a replacement OEM, I tried two to the Moto Batt ones, thought the first was a just a duff one but the second one was no better, laster less than a year each, complete waste of money imho. Both now back in their boxes in the shed, waiting for a trip to the local tip. (If anyone wants them they are welcome to have them for free if collect or just P&P if posted).

+1 for Tayna

Great service and choice, AGM and good CCA would be my advice

Have used Tayna for several bikes and cars, and successful recommendations to friends
