Recommend me a battery!

Adventure

Hello, this is my first message to this forum. Today I had my first drive for this spring and yes, dead battery. I still have the warranty (up to the end of April). If I have understood you correctly, BMW will replace the battery for warranty? Second, does the PC535GS Odyssey battery fit to my R 1200 GS Adventure from the year 2006?

small hijack... sorry :D

A mate of mine has a boat (currently parked in my garden)... anyway

He has just had his two batterries "reconditioned"... Anyone know if this can be done to a smaller bike battery?

Also, he bought a "leisure" battery last year... whats the difference between regular and "leisure" :nenau:nenau:nenau

Some sick lead-acid batteries, with liquid electrolyte, can be given a new lease of life by desulphating, can work with all sizes of battery. But if a battery is dead as a dead thing, desulphating does not work.

Leisure batteries are intended for long periods of low current discharge, "normal" batteries are intended to provide high starting current for short periods then get charged again.

Batteries

Much as I would like to join in I cannot because I am still waiting (not impatiently) for my battery to show ANY signs of old age. It was new with the bike in September '04 and seems to carry on - like modern car batteries. I don't normally use a trickle charger - but will plug one in if the bike hasn't been used for more a few days. If I ever notice that the ABS doesn't come into service first time I use the bike in a day, I give the battery a trickle - and it seems to come up and switch off in very few hours;

Weak OEM Battery

Picked up my new 2008 (2007 model) the other day and only got 20klm down the road and stopped for a coffee. To my amazement the battery was dead as a door nail. BMW exchanged it but WHY are they still supplying the same battery when they know there is a problem. Increasing the alternator output may help but we will need to wait and see

One suspects that the battery was charged up when it left the factory -perhaps some weeks before; Perhaps Your dealer changed it rather than admit that it was not checked and charged as part of the delivery preparation. Perhaps we are a bit nearer the factory - but I have not heard of similar complaints from anyone here.

It amazes me (My battery just died, bike 2years old) the likes of BMW who clearly know the extent of their battery issue, are not prepared to fit an odesy as standard to their bikes.

The price difference is around £30, and surely all the duff batteries globaly, must make up for the price difference, alternately, most people would surely opt for the assurance of longer battery life etc, for the difference on the original price.

Got my battery clipped to the optimate tonight, directly, to see if it will salvage the battery.
My 650GS needs to be started and ridden every 2 weeks at least, or its battery dies too.... got big sexy alarm, immobiliser though.
