I need to get a new phone (although I'm not a technophobe and am not adverse to secondhand) . My requirements are as follows:

Must take a standard SIM
Must have decent wi-fi usability (web browsing - email etc)
Should have ability to make calls over wi-fi when abroad (What does the recipient need?)
Should have decent camera
Must have bluetooth

any recommendations?

Samsung galaxy S2 would fit your requirements, sadly just sold mine on here recently.

HTC Wildfire or Wildfire s I have both and think for the cash they are great. The s has one problem it does not ring LOUD enough.... But I am getting on, it is otherwise superior to its predecessor...

The galaxy S 11 looks nice and reviews look good. What should I be looking to pay and how easy is it to unlock?

THIS ONE

Ive recently got a Motorola Defy plus
its impressed me its tough water resistant/dust shock resistant fast processor good camera android ect
ideal bikers phone :thumb

Tesco are doing the Samsung Chat 335 review HERE
An entry level Blackberry Style smart Phone with 250 Mins , 5000 Texts and 500mb of data allowance for just £7.50 PM !

Just got myself one !

I actually already have an O2 SIM that I want to use. I would prefer a contract free deal but do know people in O2, Vodafone and Virgin so could probably get a friends and family deal on those networks if it was cheaper than just buying the phone.

I'll have a look at that Tesco cheapie

I have been with o2 for years but they could not even come close to that Tesco deal.
Ironic thing is Tesco use o2 airtime.
Just ask 02 for a pac code and your number from your o2 sim will automatically transfer over to Tesco, I did it all on line.

How much will you be using the web browser? I use a Nokia E71 which will do everything else you need, and last a few days on a single charge. The camera is a bit crap but I think the newer model (E72) is better.

I use mine for email, calls and text messaging. The web browser is ok for the occasional use but I have used it often as a modem to connect to the internet with my laptop. The signal strength is very good and it's never dropped a call.

Wifi connection is good and you can use Skype for internet calls.

Oh, and a decent 2nd hand one won't cost anywhere near as much as the latest must have thing, which you'd probably never really use to its potential anyway.

Oh, wait, I have a 12GS.
