My chap uses the Alpinestars El Nino one piece - came recommended and he rates it highly. It stores in a pouch on a waist belt.

I bought their best buy recommendation: The BLH Light. Cant say I have worn it as I got the XXL and its too big for my dwarf like stature. The suit looks well made and scored well in their test. I would not say it would fold down particularly small and suspect that like most suits like these may make you sweat some but from the test it is very waterproof. I will have to get round and list this in the FS&W section soon...no good to me. :augie

what size would you say that would fit?:thumb

I have an AlpineStars El Nino - only worn it a few times but can't fault it so far - it really has been 100% waterproof, easy to put on and comfortable.

what are they made from /is it breathable?

I've tried the Buffalo 1-piece suit from J&S - it is cheap and has good features with a storage pouch and waist strap built in. Unfortunately the seam along the crutch developed tiny cracks which let the water in. Thought I'd wet myself :)

Changed it over (usual no questions exchange at J&S) for a ISS suit - slightly more expensive and without the fancy built-in pouch but hasn't leaked at all despite being on and off a lot in Autumn. Recommended, although I can't seem to find it for sale anywhere online

Definitely a million percent better and more practical than the silly zip-in waterproof linings in my textile jacket and trousers.

I am 44/46 chest jacket and about 5'6/7" tall. The legs are long and I seem to have a bit of material around when I tried it on....I looked more like a sack of Shite tied up ugly than I normally do!

Oops, I think its IXS, not ISS.

J&S is J&S Accessories (http://www.jsaccessories.co.uk/) They have a sale on at the moment, and no, I don't work for them :) Just received very good service from the Watford store on several occasions. :clap

Hmmmmm.... not sure what it is made from, I am sure sure the website will tell you - also don't think it is breathable - but doesn't feel like you are living in a plastic bag.

CHEERS GUYS
loads to think about i think the El Nino is top so far ,keep it coming please:D

I've used one-piece suits for years, and find that after a year or two, they generally start to leak around the crotch area....... Nice environment for tadpoles, but not to my liking :augie

The HG suits I have found to be pretty good, but still end up leaking.

So about 5 year ago, I opted for a 2 piece oversuit. Same idea, but trousers and top separate. They still fit into a large bum bag, and don't seem to take up any more space.

However I have found the following benefits to separates.
  • easier to put on over wet leathers, and as there is more freedom of movement their is less chance of getting stuck half in / half out of the suit
  • you can use the top without the trousers - which I find useful in the early mornings / late evenings when wearing a mesh jacket. So it keeps me warmer / more comfortable
  • easier to get the right size. Jacket can be one size, trousers another, and so there is less compromise for those of us who are not a standard size, (long legs, short arms etc)
  • if trousers leak, get a new pair, rather than buying a complete suit
  • seem to last longer than the one piece (i.e. crotch leakage)- which I put dopwn to the fact that it is easier to get in and out of (less stress on the seams).

I've used Gortex suits too, and they are very good, but expensive. However when it is really torrential rain (think of goold ole Switzerland) then even Gortex can be overwelmed, and so oversuits are sometimes still needed.

Good luck with you choice.

Cheers

One piece waterproof suits, whats the best now ?

One piece waterproof suits, whats the best now ?

I have an Alpinestars el nino which has given me a significantly wet crotch this afternoon. Im sure I read somewhere the BMW yellow suit was best performing.

Recommendations please.
Thanks
