Record route

Does anyone have any idea if it is possible for the 2610 to record the route as you go along. i am off round Europe for 2 weeks on Saturday and 1 of the lads who is coming along has asked if the route can get recorded on the gps.
I have a rough route planned in mapsource but we dont intend on sticking to this religously as we may see somewhere else along the way that looks more fun.
Also if it can do that, how do i get it back onto the computer?

The answer is probably no.

The Track Log in the 2610 can only store 4-5 hours of riding (if I remember correctly...) so it will not help you in this case.

Other models as the 60Cx and the 276C can log several weeks of riding.

My quest 2 filled its track log up in 4.5 days (around 2,000 miles). So I lost some of the route round mountain roads in Catalunya, but helpfully kept the motorway from Bourges to Calais! (I had it on "wrap" mode, stupidly).

On solution to this quandry. (short of buying a newer "automotive" GPS that has a decent tracklog),

Would be to buy a second hand Etrex with power cable and stuff it in the tank bag or someplace with no metal above it, but out of site... Cheap source of a decent tracklog recorder... plus you have something to carry if you go hiking...

Save track log

On most (all?) GPSes with track logs - you can save the track log. But you have to know ...

1) the active tack log is the one that the GPS records too .. has a lot of information - like the time that each point was recorded ...

2) the saved track logs (there will be a limit on the total number of track logs saved). When you save the active track log some of the information is lost to reduce the space taken. So you will loose some details.

An alternative is to use a PDA/laptop to record the data. Oziexplorer will do this. As will other programs.

Sadly you can't "save" the track log on the 2610.

The 2610 can only store 2000 track points, compared to the Quest's 10,000

You could get the track log to cover a greater distance if you drop a log point every 30s for example. Quest can be set to do this, so with 10,000 track points thats over 80 hours of riding

30s is fine for seeing where you rode, and you can get an idea of which bits are fast by the distance between track points.

Again, sadly the 2610 doesn't have the facility to change the track log interval

I have a 2610 and I think it's great but there are a couple of little features that would improve it (aren't there always!)
