The red light on my battery charger has not gone out all year, the battery has plenty of life in it and the acid level is spot on.I have lost my little booklet that comes with it so I can't figure out what it means there is just a sad little face like this  next to the light,I leave it plugged in all the time, never use the grips or ride at night so it's not as if im useing lots of juice, what does it mean?.Andy

A bit of a hint if the optimate is showing red it cannot kick start a charge cycle, use another charged bty (car etc) flash it across the o/p to raise the voltage above that needed to initiate a charge.

if your battery is ok have you checked the auxilliary socket fuse?

I had one that did that, the charger was knackered.
You have just spent a year thinking you were topping your battery up. :D
Probably means you don't really need to be using a charger.

I have an Optimate Mk1

It is fussy over the way you order you connect the battery/mains.

You have to make all the necessary connections, then plug in the charger to the mains.

If you have a power cut or just swith the Optimate off to disconnect the battery to do some maintenance and reconnect it a few minutes after then the system does not initialise properly.

You have to physically remove the mains plug from the wall.

Not sure if this will resolve your problem. Have you tried connecting the Optimate to another 12V battery to see if the problem is replicated? If it is then, as Tim suggests, theoptimate is foobarred.

Opimate 111 Oh Dear Red Light on

Andy

According to my Optimate 111, the RED LIGHT IS WHEN THE LEADS ARE ON THE BATTERY THE WRONG WAY ROUND..

John:D :D :D :D :D :hapybnce:

Mine does it all the time. I come in from a run, stick the plug in and it goes to yellow but sometimes it goes to red. I used to unplug, switch off at mains and then replug in until one day....

I plugged in the Optimate as usual - red light - then for some reason I decided to switch the ignition on and then off - bulb went from red to yellow. And an hour or so later it showed green as expected.

So if your Optimate shows red try switching the ingition on and off.

Take care
Mark

And I thought it was just me who had these problems ......

I get the feeling that my opitmate in just "pushing up daisies" !!
