Hi all

Looking for some advice. My PC is starting to get slower and slower. Kept it up to date, and use Norton regularly, and someone has mentioned getting the registry cleaned. I have looked around at the various ones on the net, RegCure etc. and was hoping someone on here could advise me. Is it a good idea, can you recommend some software, buy online or get a hard copy etc.

Any advice would be really appreciated.

Thanks guys

Neil

ditto.
i'm sure mine has crap on it i dont need/use.:nenau
any info would be good [but not to complicated please];)

download crap cleaner

http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/

install this and run the cleaner option

this will remove all the "crap", temp files etc.

then run "issues" this will scan registry and if you wish you can remove all the unwanted entries.

This has never caused me problems.

But it is advisable not to try and get too clever with the registry as other so called cleaners have caused problems.

There's your problem in one. Nothing can slow a computer as effectively as that crock of crap. Uninstall it put 'AVG' or 'Avast' anti-virus protection on your machine and you'll be suprised at the difference.

I used "RegCleaner" and it does the biz. You do need to know what you're doing with it though :blast

Thanks for that guys.

Chris, you say you need to know wot you're doing, so it's not as 'click and go' as the Regcure site suggests???? Or do you just need to be careful, and not do the usual man thing of ignoring instructions and just diving in lol?

It is click and go, and does a really good, fast , job at finding problems. That said, it does find stuff eroneously and presents it as stuff you can delete, when actually no you cant.

A while later, when you launch various programs you suddenly find that they cant open and give error messages etc, and leaves you wondering why....

Of course, by then its too late...

All it means is that you just have to pay attention and not just keep clicking ok like other programs would like you to :P

registry cleaners are a waste of time IMO. never done any good for me.

dump norton for starters.

The time you have f******d about with reg cleaners etc you are better off saving the stuff you want and doing a reinstall it will solve all probs and you pc will run much better.
I would recommend a reinstall at least once a year but that my opion im sure others would say different.

With half terrabyte external HDD's at well under £100, that's the way to go...fresh install, install all the goodies then make a backup image of a clean new setup for future use :thumb2
