Regret not optioning ESA on new 1250 GSA!!

Warlord that is a nice looking bike you have there...:thumby:
My 2017 GSA-TB was the same except your BMW cast wheels and the black spring on your TTX and mine obviously also showed a yellow triangle all the time after I put on the Ohlin$...;)
I got 2 more questions for you !
Who makes the plugs that defeat the ESA fault code and how much ?
Did you feel a difference in handling after you changed your bike from the stock spoke wheels to the slightly lighter GS cast wheels ?

Thanks, yes I love my R1200 it's a really nice bike :)

I bought my ESA Plugs from FTR Suspension in the UK. They quote £95 each, and you need two for front and rear. But I supposedly got them for free if I purchased my Ohlins from them, which I did.

However, the Plugs came in a black box with branding on it

Andreani Group International

The sticker code on it said....

Tracked it all down to here:-

Italian Translation : This wiring allows the exclusion of the error in the display, after the TTX installation

Here's all the information on this thread....

https://www.ukgser.com/forums/showt...with-GS-Alloy-Wheels-Pics?highlight=gs+alloys

I weighed them with my tyres as a direct comparison...

Front Spoked Wheel = 13.8 kg
Front Alloy Wheel = 13.4 kg

Rear Spoked Wheel = 12.7 kg
Rear Alloy Wheel = 11.1 kg

I didn't notice much difference, but then I flick between wheelsets depending what I'm doing and time of year. So maybe they weren't on long enough.

I just use a cheap EL-50448 TPMS Activation Tool from China to reprogram the Tyre Pressure Monitoring System from each wheel set (Plus OBDLink MX and MotoScan Smartphone App)

What I LOVE about the GS Alloys is they are so easy to do manual tyre pressure checks (90 degree valve) and CLEAN after a days riding.... so so much easier and nicer.... and no spoke worries about tension, caliper clearance, runout, rusting bollox....

Alloys are luxury in comparison

I had to dig to find it was a press bike - although the blob of paint on every single bolt gave away that it had been “prepped”

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Blobs of paint on bolts ?

Most BMW technicians do that to check they've correctly torqued the bolts up and checked them over

My bike is like a kid has drawn on it, after coming out of the workshop

Quick visual check for the technician - nowt special about just 'press' bikes

Presumably yours is a 2018 GSA? They were about £1000 cheaper than the 1250s I think. Anyway, all deals vary as you know - with dealers making their margins at both ends of the deal....OR not depending on multiple other motives and variables! I part exchanged my 2017 GS TE for a notional 12k against the GSA. I previously bought a new 2017 GSA TE for £15500 (factoring the part exchange number and 'cost to change').

Everything has a bottom line. (I should add I have bought 4 new bmw bikes since 2017!)

Blimey you must like your dealer to keep donating him your money by buying 4 bikes in 18 months

Do you have trouble making your mind up?

There is therapy for that condition

LBL GSA, leaving aside why you specified your new GSA with bog standard suspension, when your experience told you that the latest state of the art ESA gave a ‘magic carpet’ ride.... take yourself and the bike to MCT, who will be able to sort you and your bike out. Trust me on that.

They are not a million miles away from London.

In the meantime, here’s a song to cheer you up:

Thanks Warlord for the info !
Only 0,4 Kg difference on the front wheel between cast and spoke won't make a big difference...and 90 degree valve stems come on the spoked 1250's...
1.6 kilo on the rear will probably make the bike faster on acceleration, theoretically !

Thanks dude. :-) I'll speak to them as part of my research! Suffolk coast is a fair way from the south east......especially on a bike you don't really want to ride! :-/

Joking aside, I came out of all those deals fairly level! I did lose my very favourable position on the first 'bargain' GSA TE (which I should have kept as it was actually perfect!) but I had a bit of a mid life crisis and 'thought' I needed a S100OR. Great fun, but I missed GS comfort, so went back to a GS TE. Got to know 3 BMW dealers fairly well. :-) Had the first GS for 7 years, but have been less settled in recent years with my selections and yes, lots of indecision! The answer (if money were no object) would be 3 bikes in the garage, not one. :-)

Sadly not on the base GSAs. They come with with the old vertical valve stems which can be tricky to access amongst the spokes. I use a extender clip on thing which I keep on the bike. Spoked wheels looks nicer for sure, but the case wheels are whole lot easier to live with I think.

From central London it’s 97 miles, on two roads, M11 / A14. It’s hardly the corrugated roads of the piste. Blokes have ridden much, much further on the standard suspension, without needing a wheelchair afterwards.

Hi Paul. I paid £15400 for it 2 months ago. It has 700 miles and I have just had the 600 mile first service done. It has cruise control, heated grips and OEM fog lights added. It's 'as new' obviously. £14k?
A good price, but I think I’ll have to wait for it to depreciate a bit further before it’s in my price range! It would be the spec I’d be looking for though, although I would like the gear assist. Not sure if that can be retro fitted :nenau

Don’t bother with the gear assist...it is shite on the GSA compared to KTM....clunky on the two I have tried.

I’ve got the gear assist on my 2014 RT and I like it, you do have to give the gear lever a firm prod though.

:-) It's nice up there too. I've been to that 'Adventure bike shop' place a few times near Sudbury.

Yes, gear shift assist can be retrofitted. It's about £400-500 though. From memory, £395 from factory.
