If I take a feed from my high beam wire and use that to trigger a relay for aux lights to come on with high beam, will this bugger up the canbus system?

Probably not as it's only milliamps to power a auxiliary relay. Just be careful when making the connections.

Thanks, I thought it should be ok.
Stumped at the first hurdle though, I cannot find the trigger wire for the high beam for love nor money.
Tried at the 5 pin multiplug that goes into the headlight cluster, nothing. Tried each wire from the switchgear and still nothing that feeds a 12v switched signal.

Bizarre....

I looked at ezCAN as one was up for sale the other day. It didn't look like I could set it up for having the additional lights come on with the high beam as I want.

It can do exactly that and one of its best features. You can set different option for low and high beams

its not bizzare at all its canbus, multiple bits of info on the same wire,do not attempt to tap in at the
headlamp connector, the hex or denali version is what you want

I think it came down to me not understanding how canbus works. Makes sense now.
I can't justify the cost of an ezCAN at present, was hoping to do it on the cheap but will have to set it up with a switch for the time being. Shame.

Might have to stick with a standard switch. The EZCan is handy though
