Remap by Hilltop Motorcycles

A little knowledge is dangerous....

I have a 55 plate GS with a Remus Titanium end can.

The way i see it, there are 4 options...

1 Remap with the bike totally stock
2 with an aftermarket end can
3 with aftermarket headers or
4 with headers and end can

Traditionally, on sports bikes, if you start putting after market end cans on you may end up reducing the mid range torque but gain a little top end power. So i have stock headers and remus end can.

Does this mean compared to stock, my mid range as altered and bhp gone up slightly?

I've seen a set of de-catted headers for sale, but wondered if the mid range torque of the bike is further reduced by installing these at the gain of more top end bhp...?

If this is the case, does the remap address the potential mid range loss?

Hope that makes sense..

Andrew

Geoff remapped mine, I've mentioned figures earlier in the thread but anyone out there who is still undecided, it's a no brainer. My bike pulls hard in every gear, throughout the rev range, very rapid acceleration, a very good value mod.

Mine has a Leo Vince SBK slip on can.

Finally, Geoff said that the best GS he had on the dyno had aftermarket headers but they were ceramic coated, I think the aftermarket headers, decent can, combined with the remap would give one the optimal set up, I won't bother with the headers/ceramic coating as it's fast enough for me already!

FWIW I don't think the hexhead boxer is particularly effected by exhaust tuning because it's likely to have only a small valve overlap (I say "likely to" because I don't know the actual figures). The removal of cat will allow the pipe to flow more freely. Combine that with a re-map to give a better fuel/air mixture and away you go.

Just in case anyone wondered what Geoff did before he arrived at Hilltop :D

Is that him on the left?

Nah - the dodgy looking one on the right :augie

Hmmm?....

Pros: Increased hp, Increased torque, better fuelling, higher mpg? smoother in general

Cons: 622 miles round trip :flag (an RR on it's own), £360 ( good value though compared to general farkling) and finally the major stumbling block - BMW SELECT !!

Can't help but feel the pros outweigh the cons :blast

I really need to stop reading this thread !!

I'm interested in getting my '11 GS re-mapped, just for a little extra oomph in the midrange. Is there anything I need, like a Power Commander, before taking it to Hilltop? Or do they re-mapped the standard ECU itself?

Well I rang Geoff earlier today, and my 08gsa is booked in for Saturday morning I shall let you know the results :)

Well I had mine done today, up from 85bhp to 103 at the wheel, and aprox 20ft/lb more torque. Deffo worth the cash the bike runs better and pulls harder great fun. Not noticed mpg gains but I've been spanking it today :)

That sounds like some decent numbers..:thumby:

But I just cant decide on the remap or the PC way for my 09 GSA..
As the remap is a permanent thing (kinda), whereas the PC can be removed re-tuned, tweaked in an instant (almost).

:confused::confused:

PC is untidy with the extra wiring and the connectors are not very waterproof. I would suggest making whatever changes you want with cat/exhaust first then do the remap
Can easily be returned to stock or modified again by Geoff if required. Might be worth giving him a ring.

The remap is invisible. Some insurers consider it's simply putting the engine back to how the designers intended. Others see it as a performance upgrade and charge accordingly. The PC is additional equipment so cant be anything other than an performance upgrade.
