Remembrance Day trips out?

Anyone know of any Remembrance Day ride-outs or trips in the NE of Scotland?

Andy,

I've routinely taken a ride out to the Commando memorial at Spean Bridge on Remembrance Sunday, aim to get there before 11am.

Always a moving experience.

Davel - each time I've been there it has just been a loose gathering of both civvies and uniformed individuals paying their respect at 11am. There is an official service later in the day, which I have not waited around for, prefering to pay my repects in my own way. Which ever way you do it, I find it very emotional, for personal reasons.

No shortage of places to visit in the Highlands, sadly. Pretty much all of them with wonderful views. I expect that was on the minds of the various committees that did the planning after WW1. Have a look here for a search. Strontian is one of my favourites (if that's the right term to use). Not a greatly inspiring sculpture but the view down the loch and the inscription ... One look at all those names and you can understand the devastating impact on such a tiny community.

quite moving as again it shows the devastating effect of the wars on the local communities, but in such a beautiful setting.

No worries Andrew, I'll firm up the details with SteveT and PM you with our anticipated timings etc. I suspect it may be easier if we meet in Aviemore as that would be a more direct route for us coming from Moray.

I was assuming the remembrance service would be on Sunday the 13th...

The service is in the afternoon, about 3pm, according the the RM Commando's web site.

As said earlier, I plan on getting to the monument before 11am, for the 1 minutes silence at 11am.

Cabby, Davel - As SteveT says, we are looking to be at the memorial around 1045-1130hrs, then popping into a local lodge for soup/roll/brew etc, would be good to see you all. If you want to join us for the ride let me know and I'll PM you loose route/timings too.
