Buying new LC GSA. I want to have the tank panels sprayed black rather than the factory silver.

Dealer told me they are not panels but the actual fuel tank. My air cooled GS has black metal panels that are removable.

Can anyone confirm if these LC silver panels or the actual tank please?

Thank you. Do you know if it's easy to remove for spraying? Big tank then!

Wont be too hard for a bike mechanic or someone who knows what they're doing.............but I wouldn't like to try myself:eek:

I've had experience with wrapping and it would bubble in corners and over the text of the word GS. Here's a photo of what I want to achieve. I think black tank looks better than silver.

I'm curious. How can that be the tank when the stripped down bike - Photod - shows the tank is plastic? Surely the silver panels are panels and not the tank that holds fuel? Confused?

Edit. Ah that's plastic tank is the airbox! Ok.

No I posted some photos but wanted to delete the post but could not, so I "removed" them.

Wrapping the tank is quite difficult, the GS parts are the hardest to get right, but it is possible.
I'd not done any wrapping before I did mine, and quickly realised that it was impossible to do it alone.
Get assistance, try doing the GS with small bits before attempting the whole side and just take it slowly. You soon understand how the vinyl works and shrinks.
I bought 4 metres of full width vinyl, and after a few false starts I managed to get both sides done and still have 3 metres left to redo it at any point it needs it in the future.

Have been fancying sorting out my tank for a while now, whilst in Germany last week I saw quite a few GSA WC's that had black main tanks, any way at Ijmuiden the other day there were a large number of BMW's including a 2015 blue GSA WC with a black tank and a triple black GSA WC again with a black main tank.

Whilst looking at the bikes tanks it was plain that they weren't wrapped but painted and speaking to the owners they stated that both bikes were dealer supplied with a satin black main tank instead of silver, not sure if they were factory supplied or are being painted by the supplying dealer but they were a hell of a visual improvement over the silver.

Looks like a job for the winter

Why go through all the bother of removing tank. Just plastidip in whichever colour you want. Also, the OP wants a matte black ... and plastidip is perfect for that.

The Triple Black LC hasn't been released yet, so I'm assuming the owner had the whole bike painted. I'm waiting for the TB to be announced any day, and am hoping it comes with a painted tank from the factory, if not, it'll be coming off and painted before I take delivery.
