Removal of the Cat

Hi there guys I am sorry I didnt realise that this thread was still going, I am sorry but the pics I took didnt come out but if you fancied meeting up sometime I would be more than happy to have a chat and go through it with you.

It is quite easy if you dont listen to all the nay sayers and just get on with it and do it, the cat isnt in the headers at all it is under the bike where the clamp holds the exhaust to the bike.

If you have a couple of hours spare and fancy the trip I would be more than happy to do it for you, so give me a shout if you fancy a chat.

And to all the nay sayers go and spend your hard earned cash on something that you dont need.

Mark.

Hi there

I would be happy if you want to have a chat about it but it was all quite easy if you can weld.

Send me a PM and I will send you my mobile number.

Mark.

Is it a honeycombe matrix you could core out and finish off with a bar? or is welding the only real option

Thanks

Cat

Look..... these bikes fall apart by themselves without you ripping into them.
My advice is leave well alone!
If you leave it long enough, the Cat will probably rot out anyway, like after about 2 years and 1 day.

Enf of discussion?

"......Thank you for taking the time to read this and if you have something constructive to say the please do......" There must be a suitable 'smiley' that won't sound so offensive?

Mark, thank you very much for the pictures, i am much more confident now, what was the differance in sound? i cant believe how restrictive that was! How many kms have you put on the bike since you did this?

Hi Mark, sorry to be a pain but saw your old posts re the cutting/removal of the cat and rewelding of the o/e y piece exhaust. Was it ok and did you just do the headers or did you cut the end can to remove the baffles too. (not into making noise just want the increase in mid range)
Just sold my 06 GS with a Remus system and brought a 06 GSA with o/e system, I have a spare set of headers so thought it would be good option.
Ps I'm based in Southend Essex. Any advice you could give me would be great.
Pm me or give me a buzz on 07790021007 anytime if you've got a spare moment.
Regards Jez.

HI,

I am also interested i this but wondering if the CAT materials are not actually harmful and dangerous to deal with? do you have to wear a face mask when doing this job?
Also find it hard to understand how this could save fuel, can anyone explain?
Also, could that honeycomb material not just be bashed out without having to cut the pipe?

Removing the CAT will probably not save fuel because you'll use the revs more :augie

I've found the MPG to be about the same with or without the CAT.

I have found my MPG has increased by 1mile (so far), the MPG may increase as you don't need as much fuel to produce the same amount of power when you had the CAT, but it is all too easy to give it more to feel the extra power after CAT removal and use more fuel anyway!
In other words, if you ride the same after you have removed the cat as you did before, you should see an improvement on MPG.

Apologies all for not paying attention to this thread, but if anyone requires any info please call me on 07894 988610 and if you want me to do it for you a small donation to my tool fund may have to be talked about.

And to those who say that you will use more fuel, please go and learn about engines and gas flowing as the engine is able to run under less load thus using less fuel but it doesn't really make any difference to the noise of the bike after all it is only a restrictive cat which has been put in to keep the EU rule makers happy.

Anyway rant over and spend more time riding your bikes and less time looking at it.

Mark.

I have a 1200GS 2004 After removing the cat will the fuel control system automatically adjust or will it need to be (its late) re chipped ?

For the record said:
Sounds like hypocrisy to me. Why own two large capacity, inefficient motorcycles and then bleat about environmental concerns? If you were genuine you'd be commuting on something much more fuel efficient then either of those hedonistic guzzlers....:rose
