My son has a Kawasaki GPZ500S fitted with 33 hp restrictor kit. He will soon be able to remove restrictor as he'll have had his licence 2 years. When he first got bike, the kit was fitted by dealer so I don't know exactly what it comprises of.

Can we remove it ourselves or does it have to be removed by dealer?

From what I can see it appears to be restrictors placed in the carb manifolds. I have a complete set of spare carbs so it might be easier to simply swap the carbs and keep old set for when he sells it on.

Any opinions?

cheers

Sid

On some ( not all ) it is just a big washer in the intake ( carb to head )
Some a ristriction in the carb it's self ( some form of mechanical stop to restrict the slid movement ) On other newer bikes it can be Electrical ( into the ecu ) I would think on the qwak it will be the big Washer..
Hope thats of some help.

I bought an Africa twin that was restricted. It was just a case of removing the airbox to give access to the intake stubs and then hoiking the washers out. I spoke to the company that make the restrictor kits and they confirmed that was all that was required and that the initial restriction process didn't involve fiddling with carb settings or anything.
From what I could gather there is/was one major importer or manufacturer of restriction kits. Can't remember the name now but if you find this out and give them a bell they should help confirm whats required:thumb2
