My Fellow Tosser's

Is there any way to remove the brake calipers without bleeding the brake system on a 1200GSA. I wish to fully clean and desalt them.

you can however, unbolt them, clean them, then bolt them back on without disturbing the hydraulic lines.

don't pump the pistons too far out if you go that route. some time spent with the manual might be an advantage ;)

Assuming you don't want to cart the whole brake assembly into the house to clean it...it's easy. No need to take the brake lines off, so no need to bleed, surely?

If you mean completely remove them from the bike by disconnecting the brake hoses then the answers no.

Me thinks I just found out how to do it in the Reprom

34 11 060 Replace front brake caliper (without bleeding)

34 21 060 Replace rear brake caliper (without bleeding)

Anybody done this work before ?

IMO learning to work on safety critical motorcycle components is best learned young.

you heal faster :augie

just follow the linky above...

Undo the bolts (and the abs lead)

Wiggle the callipers a bit to free up the pads

Take em off, quick blast with the air hose etc..... whack em back on... how difficult can it be :nenau

Just follow the link above, be careful with the torques when you put em back on and I take no responsibility la la la :D

As above, just unbolt the calipers and pull them free of the disc. Take the pads off and have a quick clean around with some brake cleaner and a toothbrush. Put it all back again. Job done.

I think you'll find the preferred method of bodging brake cleaning is to do exactly as you said, but then empty a can of brake cleaner into the caliper. A professional would lay some newspaper on the garage floor to prevent an unsightly black stain... :augie

Don't forget that when the calipers are re-fitted, you will need to pump the brake lever/pedal to reduce any excessive clearance in the pads/disc.
