Removing rear carrier

Has anyone removed the large plastic rear luggage carrier (the silver plastic panel that the seats sit on, which the pillion handles/ top box holder bolts onto). From what I can see, it's just 4 bolts, then remove the rear light. Obviously I don't want to damage anything, so if anyone has removed this, any tips?

I'll be getting it painted metallic black, to match the black panels on my TB GSA, along with getting the pillion peg holders painted dark grey to match the frame. All stuff BMW should have done at the factory!

You would have had none of that hassle if you had bought a Yamaha , or a Honda.

Just removed mine on new triple black gsa. I did it to modify for vario luggage. It's as you say just four screws and it comes off. You'll find them a bit tight to loosen at first but easy job

How about getting the rear light off? Easy?

You don't need to remove the rear light to remove the rack you want to paint

It's the same as the one on the GS. The rear light sits on the base below so you can remove the rear carrier with the 4 bolts as mentioned. Just don't pop out the spring on the seat lock as it's a bit of a pain to get it all lined up again

Any more bloody black on it and you will park it and if it gets dark you will never find it again

Taking it off the bike is one thing, stripping out and reassembling the seat mechanisms is quite another ...

Crikey fella, if ever there was a bike crying out for a bit of powder coating it's that one

as everyone has mentioned, i comes straight off with the 4 bolts, its not connected to the rear light. Seat spring is fiddly but easy enough to sort out! .

definitely better in black
