I know that this one has been done to death but bear with me.

I have a 1150 adv and before it was run in I ditched the cat and put in a K&N filter.

She seems to lunge when de accelerating and she backfires like a good 'un.

The first thing I did was to reseal the exhaust as I assumed there was an airleak. I used a jointing compound but she still did it.

Ok next did the valves and balanced the throttle bodies, so that side is sorted.

Went to try the "Steptoe" fix, here is where I need the advice.

I measured the voltage on the TPS before I started messing, reading .381 volts. reset the motronic, .380. Ok so far all reset.

Put on the jumper fix and reset motronic. Measured the voltage .377!!!! to me that will make the mixture leaner and make the surging worse? BMW recommend .370-.400 and on one American site they say you can go to .450, but it will bugger up the cat (don't have one so don't care)

Question does the jumper reset the TPS? if so by resetting the TPS you are bypassing the jumper?

Could be me just being a prat, comments required (not about me being a prat I know the answers to that one)

Fred the confused

Oh by the way I did the TPS adjustment to my old 1100 and it made the trottle response smoother, I just want to understand what I am doing!!!

Fred the troubled cat

You really need to understand the function of all the injection components before making adjustments.
Ask Steptoe to give you the exact functions of the TPS unit, then you'll understand how it relates to his modification, which doesn't work on all 1150s.
Others on the site do have a thorough understanding of the system, but he is the person you should ask first,if he can't help, then re-ask the question.

I just fitted a K & N filter to my 12GS and made some 600 mls. The engine felt revitalised with this part in happy company with a Staintune can (without baffle). No technical problems whatsoever. Good combination.

Another lean runner

How do you measure the TPS value - i.e. where do you connect to and is it the fully-open value that you measure?

I fitted a Y and Remus legal can but the dyno run was "a bit lean". I have NOT reset the Motronic (yet). I have no link in the relay place as the dyno showed a richer mixture without.

All help gratefully received!

it's measured between the rearmost wire on the TPS sensor & ground, throttle closed.
