Remus can melts numberplate ~

Just something of an update on an ageing thread. Having melted 2 number plates on my 800GS with a remus hexicone. I tried foil tape etc. I've put a smaller plate on, ridden 3000 miles and it's fine (hope I don't get one)

David, is your set up like mine as I've not had any problems with or without system panniers fitted.

Looks very similar to my setup, except I have TT Zega panniers fitted...

Maybe I'm just generating more heat, no idea why though :augie

I've now gone back to the BMW silencer (still have the Y piece fitted).

Extension pipes look pants IMO.

Small number plate is the way to go :thumb2

Doesn't have to be stoopid small, just a bit smaller. You've seen mine David, doesn't look illegal (but defo looks better) and has never got me a tug, done for the same reason with my BOS system.

Watch out Andres......

I have a slightly smaller plate as well....I've also never been tugged for it, and I'd say it looks better as well (but then, I would :blast)

Now..the point of this post is to let you know that apparently (according to the nice guy who gave me an MOT cert regardless of the plate size) they've changed it now, and being done for a small plate is endorsable, not just a fine anymore

I doubt I'll bother changing it tbh, but I will be truly pissed off if i get three points for a very slightly smaller plate that fits in the spirit of the law (ie is perfectly legible and properly spaced, even if the font is a few mm smaller than it ought to be)

I have an Akro end can and Y piece and the plastic plate mount looked a little worse for wear. Problem solved by the addition of a Sebring Rear silencer extension (TT) which directs the heat away from the indicators and panniers. I also have a metal number plate holder from our mates at Rugged Roads which solves the heat problem on the plate.

I was looking at changing my standard set up to a Scorpion end can and a Y piece but now not sure as i dont really fancy melting the panniers

The number plate can be replaced cheap as chips with something smaller as i always ran 8 X 6 plates on my sports bikes without any problems plod wise but left the standard plate on the GS as the bike is huge anyway :D

Some bikes do it some don't  My 1150 did it after just fitting a Remus y-piece with the BM end can.

Time to buy some tin boxes to go with the new y-piece?
